The palantir in LOTR once could be used to see across time and space, but Sauron corrupted them so that they only show the dark tower. The original doom scrolling?! “Perilous to us all are the devices of an art deeper than we possess ourselves.” (TTT, 1954)

See Norton Juster, The Phantom Tollbooth 109 (Alfred A. Knopf 50th Anniversary ed. 2011) (“Words and numbers are of equal value, for, in the cloak of knowledge, one is warp and the other woof. It is no more important to count the sands than it is to name the stars.”).

I'm delighted to share that the faculty at UF Law have decided to promote me to Associate Professor. It's a great job with a wonderful group of people (that includes our phenomenal students), and I'm looking forward to the coming school year!

We conclude: "With litigation pending and the deals in doubt, the call for courage is not over. ... [W]ith each new set of choices, it is no less vital for the legal profession to meet the moment with clarity and conviction." [4/5]

We also point out that the gravest threat isn't the direct attack on law firms that Donald Trump doesn't like or the commitment to adjust pro bono programs, but a deep undermining of the independence of the private bar. [3/5]
