I joined the Levant Blackneck club last night, with a slightly worn individual among the 23/9 recorded. Small Mottled Willow, Diamond Back, 2 Silver Y, 3 Rush Veneer & 5 Rusty-dot Pearl were the other @migrantmothuk.bsky.social. Also another Nabis capsiformis, making it 10 over the week

Cheers Dave. I forgot to add the the Dichomeris was also new for Devon
chrisvincent70.bsky.social
Finger's crossed. Phil Sterling is gen detting it for me. I would have gotten around to it eventually myself, but he was happy to do this, as well as the Dichomeris.

A rather battered gelechid that came to my Plymouth garden trap on 2nd October has been confirmed by gendet as Dichomeris acuminatus. The 4th or 5th (pending a record in Sep from the Scillies) record for the UK. A Phycitodes sp caught on the same night is awaiting confirmation

Soak some ropes, don't put them all out, but replace them every few days with ones still soaking in the mixture. Only replace the mix once it's all used up

I dissolve 1kg of sugar in a bottle of red wine (12%abv or higher), then soak some rope and hang up. Simple as that. You can add a dash of dark rum to the mix before you hang the ropes each time to improve your chances. I replace the ropes about once a week

A good evening using wine ropes from our holiday cottage near Oban last night: 17 Angle Shades, 3 Pink-barred Sallow, 4 Square-spot Rustic, Sallow, Red-line Quaker, Chestnut, Dark Sword-grass and a lifer with Red Sword-grass. Much more productive than using lights!

Strange. The Thorns have done very well down here in Plymouth. My best year for both August and Canary-shouldered. Not as many Dusky as previous years, but by no means scarce.

At the garden centre where I work near Plymouth, a member of the hardy plants team found this male Convolvulus Hawk-moth this afternoon. Luckily I was in work, unlike in the spring when they found a Striped Hawk-moth

I found this sad remnant of a Striped Hawk-moth hanging by some webbing yesterday morning in my Plymouth garden. Probably a victim of the resident Magpie population that scours the garden most mornings. Fortunately for me, at least, not a year tick.

I feel your pain. Went on a field trip near Paignton last night. Really mild, but the moths weren't flying. Around 20 species and 40 moths between 2 traps. The same setup produced over 400 moths a couple of weeks earlier. The rain during the day certainly didn't help.

Nice one Alan. I had Devon's first in 2021. This is possibly Devon's 6th record (unless any others have been seen this year)
chrisvincent70.bsky.social
I had my second Clepsis peritana in my Plymouth garden trap last night, possibly Devon's 3rd after my 1st on 8th July, followed by another caught by a moth-er a couple of days later near Exeter.

They're great spiders though. Like you, I'm forever moving spiders from the trap surrounds. Noble False Widows are the main ones here
chrisvincent70.bsky.social
I think I must have verified around 10,000 records so far this year. It certainly helps the CMR out, though
chrisvincent70.bsky.social
That must hurt! Did you get to see it, though?
chrisvincent70.bsky.social
Thanks for your records, Alan. Keeping me busy! 😂

Antigastra catalaunalis. New for the year Vestal Pyrausta purpuralis. New for the year and also new for the garden 2 Caloptilia honoratella/hemidactylella. To be determined. That's 3 this month, following a single on 3rd August, and 4 so garden this year. Surely breeding in nearby Sycamores?
chrisvincent70.bsky.social
Looks like an Ancylis species

116 of 48 to my Plymouth garden trap overnight. A few migrants, with 11 Rush Veneer & a Gem. Also a Caloptilia species that could well be either honoratella or hemidactylella. Honoratella has only 2 Devon records and hemidactylella has yet to be recorded here. Retained for further checks. #teammoth

We saw them just after you left us, at Karen's MV! Her 2 traps were by far the busiest.

I'm sure it wouldn't be a problem, Tim.
