📢 The climate talks #COP30 in Belém conclude with a largely empty deal:
❌ No halt to deforestation,
❌ No fossil fuel phaseout, and
❌ No climate finance at the scale the crisis demands.

🗣️ Indigenous Peoples have long said: climate inaction threatens fundamental rights.

#AdvisoryOpinions by the Inter-American Court of Human Rights and the International Court of Justice now confirm it.

1/2. “The COP of Truth cannot ignore science. 75% of carbon emissions come from fossil fuels. Today we are not even allowed to discuss pathways for a just and equitable transition away from fossil fuels.” Colombia at the close of #COP30.

🚨 At #COP30’s closing plenary, Colombia refused to approve the decision on the mitigation work programme unless fossil fuel language was included.

Several climate-vulnerable states demanded more ambition & public finance for climate adaptation.

🔔This is a wake-up call🔔

For too long the #UNFCCC has been a race to the lowest common denominator as consensus decisionmaking enables 1 country or a small minority to block progress. The #ClimateCrisis is here & the world can't wait. #TheCOPWeNeed is one that allows for voting when consensus is impossible. Watch 👇
Colombian minister Irene Vélez Torres explains her views on fossil fuels being excluded from the COP30 text.

"The problem is, right now, the method [is] only of consensus”, with “the most ambitious agenda” ending up “eliminated”.

She added: “We still believe that a change in the text is possible."

🔥 Spot on remarks by Colombia minister Irene Vélez Torres 🔥

UN climate talks continue ending up in lowest-common-denominator-outcomes failing to uphold legal obligations because of the way the process is built.

Consensus kills ambition. Reform is urgent. #TheCOPWeNeed

📣 At #COP30, one thing is clear: The framework that guides the climate talks is falling short!

TODAY at #COP30, Colombia is making history: The country is rallying nations behind real action to phase out #FossilFuels, as science and the law demand.

‼️ This is a BIG political signal: high-ambition countries are stepping up where many others aren’t.

#COP30 is the first climate summit after the historic climate rulings by the International Court of Justice & the InterAmerican Court of Human Rights.

It must be a turning point:
❌ No more voluntary pledges
❌ No more delay
❌ No more impunity.

It’s time to close the accountability gap.
