Shelter's new report finds that tenants' physical, mental and financial health start to improve as soon as they move into a social home.

Moreover, the report puts the cost to the government of failing to delivering 90,000 social homes a year at £117bn.

Homelessness is not inevitable. We urge the government to commit to mitigating the harms of experiencing homelessness through tailored support in the forthcoming homelessness strategy this year.

New Q1 2025 homelessness stats are out - and show a deepening crisis with a 11.8% rise in households living in TA, with two-thirds (63.4%) being families with children.

More positively, there were:
✅ Fewer B&B placements
✅ More households finding secure accommodation at the end of their duties
