The Nets' defense is getting better. Just a tiny bit. #NBA #NetsWorld
Our Defense is Getting Better
Our defense is still bad. But it’s getting better. This chart shows the trendline of our opponents’ Pts/G over the first ten games. The dots represent actual bits of data. That line is a trendline …

The Nets defense is terrible, but the flickers of hope from last year should give us flickers of hope this year. #NetsWorld #NBA
The First Five Games: Defense
As Lucas Kaplan noted recently, we may be on pace to be one of the worst defensive teams of all time. But there was a brief stretch last season when we were one of the best defensive teams in the l…

How bad are the Nets? We're on pace to win 13, maybe 17, depending on how you want to calculate it. #NetsWorld #NBA

The Nets' pre-season stats gave me some glimpses of hope for what will certainly be a tough season. #NetsWorld #NBA
Pre-Season Stats, 2025-26
What can the Nets’ pre-season stats tell us? Most fans understand that pre-season stats aren’t worth much. True, they’re not a reliable metric to predict a team’s overall winning percentage. But pr…

My Nets prediction from last year was also surprisingly good (though, to be fair, I got lucky). #NetsWorld #NBA

My NBA W-L predictions last year were--surprisingly--better than other people's predictions. #NetsWorld #NBA

Summer League stats don't mean a whole lot, but they can offer us some basic insights (for example: Drew Timme rocks!). #NetsWorld

I was surprised by the Nets’ draft. I was surprised by Demin at #8 (instead of Maluach or Murray-Boyles?). I was surprised—like most people—that we used all of our picks. In have to admit that I feel a bit disappointed. But I have to remind myself that Marks has been good at the draft. #NetsWorld

I offer up counter arguments to my arguments that the draft is overrated, then offer up counter arguments to those counterarguments. #NetsWorld #NBA

I created a statistical cheat sheet that gives numerical values to every draft pick in order to figure out if it's worthwhile to package some late draft picks for some earlier ones. #NBA #NetsWorld

I continue to ponder the overvaluation of draft picks as it relates to future all-stars status.

Draft Picks are (Kinda) Overrated, Part 2
In my last post, I looked at draft results using advanced metrics. But a lot of people don’t trust or understand those freaky numbers. So let’s look at draft picks from a more humanistic angle: tha…

It's fun to talk about the draft, but I think that the significance of the draft is overrated in terms of team building:

Draft Picks are Overrated, Part 1
It’s fun to talk about the draft, but I think a lot of basketball nerds think it’s more important than it is. All the online chatter about trading Cam Johnson to move up ten spots seems ridiculous …

I'm interested in and hopeful that the Nets draft Kon Knueppel, Khaman Maluach, Derik Queen, Jase Richardson, Asa Newell, or Collin Murray-Boyles.

I'm very happy and very relieved that we didn't trade Cam Johnson. He's one of the most underrated players in the league; and we got him on a good contract.

I hate fairweather fans. When I'm at Barclays, I audibly sneer at people who sneak past me to leave early. Because they don't care. But lately, I've been struggling to watch games to the end. For the opposite reason. Because I care too much. We're on a 5-22 streak. You gotta admit: it's been rough.

34-7 to OKC. I'm turning this shit off. Maybe for the rest of the season.

I was at Barclays last night. As always, I love our guys. But who even was this team? The increasingly non-improving Nic Claxton and the G-League All-Stars? This is what tanking looks like. Do people really want to see this for another 2-5 years? I guess they do. Like I said: I love our guys. But...

I’ve been pleasantly surprised by D-Lo. I was hoping that with a worse team, he might be able to rejuvenate his natural cockiness and take on a leadership role. And in the first two games, at least, he does seem confidently fluid out there, with a veteran’s humble swagger I don't recall from 2019.
