I was at Barclays last night. And that ending was about as heartbreaking as I've experienced. #NetsWorld

Thinking of a box score as a 10-5-3 game, just as thinking of it as a 5-5-5 game, might be revealing. #NBA #NetsWorld

Claxton has become an assists-machine, not a passing-machine, because Jordi Fernandez has designed the offense along a Galactic Center Model. #NBA #NetsWorld
Claxton has Become an Assists-Machine, not a Passing-Machine
I wrote the other day that Claxton was getting a lot more assists this year partly because he was better at seeing passing lanes. I knew at the time that this was only partly true; in fact, in a lo…

Claxton is getting a lot more assists this year partly because he's much more consciously assessing potential passing lanes. #NBA #NetsWorld
Claxton Has Become a Better Passer
Claxton is playing much better this year. His improved passing skills are one of the most surprising new aspects of his game. Of the 53 centers that Basketball Reference currently considers to be “…

One way you can judge defensive skills is by looking at position-relative stocks per possession #NBA #NetsWorld
Nets Defense: Position-Relative Stocks
Sometimes when people talk about defense, they make reference to the “stocks” stat—that is, steals plus blocks. I was curious how our guys have been doing vis a vis stocks. But I was also curious a…

There is Hope: Michael Porter, Jr., is Becoming a More Explosive Scorer
Michael Porter, Jr., has been easing his way into being the team’s leader, clearly a position he was eager to inhabit. And it’s working out well. His scoring has been improving dramatically. This c…

There is Hope: Our Defense Continues to Improve
In the first five games, we had the worst defense in the league. But there was hope, since there were (admittedly, brief) stretches last year when Jordi Fernandez inspired the team to play great de…

Claxton’s Game is Developing for the First Time in Years
At the beginning of the year, Nic Claxton was telling everyone that his back was in better shape than it had been in years. I have a vague memory of Sarah Kustock mentioning that he’d become father…

Our Defense is Getting Better
Our defense is still bad. But it’s getting better. This chart shows the trendline of our opponents’ Pts/G over the first ten games. The dots represent actual bits of data. That line is a trendline …

The First Five Games: Defense
As Lucas Kaplan noted recently, we may be on pace to be one of the worst defensive teams of all time. But there was a brief stretch last season when we were one of the best defensive teams in the l…

Pre-Season Stats, 2025-26
What can the Nets’ pre-season stats tell us? Most fans understand that pre-season stats aren’t worth much. True, they’re not a reliable metric to predict a team’s overall winning percentage. But pr…

I was surprised by the Nets’ draft. I was surprised by Demin at #8 (instead of Maluach or Murray-Boyles?). I was surprised—like most people—that we used all of our picks. In have to admit that I feel a bit disappointed. But I have to remind myself that Marks has been good at the draft. #NetsWorld
