UNTIL IT’S DONE, Ep. 4: Sylvia Rivera

In the 1970s, queer New Yorkers had been pushed to the margins of NYC. Our trans neighbors faced immense cruelty. But in Sylvia Rivera, they found a champion.

As we combat Trump’s politics of darkness, her legacy can light the path forward.

I want this. ASAP, Charlie.

I’m like, I would eat that. I’d have interesting dreams and a very loud gastric system after, but I’d eat it.

Hooray for them! That’s so impressive to do that before they’ve finished secondary school. Right? They are only mid-teens, aren’t they? *ages nervously*

It’s one of my favourite things, and it’s on the way home!

And St Moritz was hideous too.
A lake ringed by mountains in sunshine. In the foreground is a road with a passing yellow van.

Lago Bianco, my favourite bit. I think this might be my birthday treat next year - feeling very jealous of the walkers out there today.

Mountain and the moon at Alp Grüm!

As usual, nothing worth seeing here.
A photo of a lake with mountains perfectly reflected in it. Looking down a sunlit valley.

Saturday morning on the Bernina line.
A view of a half-sunlit valley. There is a curved viaduct and a red train below it.

And good morning from the last active volcano of our trip, Vesuvius.

I think I’ll stay on board. By movie logic, that would mean something terrible would happen to the boat, but Vatican Cow is snoozing in my cabin and @fluffcthulhu wouldn’t let any of his pelagic chums harm her.

Even the ferry has started sounding like the beat of an 80s blockbuster soundtrack - it does rather feel like the beginning of a monster movie.
Smoke and light around the top of a silhouetted volcano.

Looking the other way, there’s clearly a spectacular sunset on the other side of Salina!

And it’s sunset now and getting colder, so this is probably my last good look at Stromboli. We should be stopping there about 9pm.
Two islands in the distance. The clouds are pink and gold and the mountain on one is smoking.

And here we are at Salina. On the east side of the island, so it’s a bit dark, while Lipari glows in the setting sun.

This hydrofoil looks like it’s running on its toes.
A hydrofoil boat. Its keel appears to be completely out of the water.

And now we’ve just taken on the pilot for arriving in Lipari.
A small pilot boat sailing away between the ferry and the land.

Stop one is Vulcano. Hephaestus has got the kettle on, I see.
A view of the volcano of Vulcano, from the sea. A close-up of smoke emerging from the side of Vulcano.

Sailed from Milazzo 90 minutes ago, heading to Naples. There’s a few stops on the way.
