If I get anxious about the works someone makes then I put some distance there. I don't expect *everyone* to do that, that creator obviously has fans for a reason. I'm just not one of them. I might not be their friend but I am still their ally on the side of sex positivity, no questions asked

Yeah I'm pretty sure we get each other here 🫂 I'm not a participant in these big harassment campaigns but I do often opt to stop supporting creators who regularly cross that line I set for myself. I find it incomprehensible how severe the reactions are, no need for threats and life-ruining endeavors

All about time and place and knowing when that line of mundanity/kink scene is crossable. If I had just gotten a DM about how that part of the comic was sexy to them it would've been easier to clarify "sorry that was profoundly unsexy for me lol" rather than feeling like a violation.

Exactly. I don't think it's unreasonable to ask that people do a little room-reading when it comes to NSFW comments. One time I made a comic about my daily experience on the autism spectrum and someone asked me to zoom in and give more detail on a part that aroused them. Maybe... don't do that lmao

My main concern remains desensitization, not destroying people's lives for thought crimes or crucifixion of pervs because I know damn well that includes me. Over-corrective NSFW policies inevitably net even the most innocuous depictions of the marginalized as taboo objects rather than people

All I'm saying is I'm sick of the insults slung around at me for being put off by it. E621 has a great blacklist system; arguments start and end when "ew" is met with "use your blacklist." It doesn't need to include an attack on the person trying to do what you ask and curate their consumption.

And re: the trauma angle I think it's fucked to expect everyone to air their trauma to prove themselves to the audience. I don't think anyone should have to say "I survived SA and use art to integrate the experience." That should be allowed to remain in the realm of pure privacy, not a public forum

Like I think we'd both agree that hyperrealistic deepfakes or even just Photoshops of real people being assaulted are fucked up. Is the difference literally just the subject, nothing about the nature of the creator or the motivation as to why the image was made?

My concern is not about the art itself. It's about the mentalities of the creator and the receiver. Audiences have a responsibility to critically engage in the things they enjoy. I am simply asking for a world where "fiction ≠ reality" isn't a lazy tautology used to end the conversation

For clarity's sake, nowhere in my thread did I say this art should be banned. I'm venting my frustration at being told that I'm backwards/conservative for being just uncomfortable. I get that artists have no control over their audiences and the current social media model is self-curated

I have things I fantasize about sexually and regularly consume porn depicting it but when it happens in real life there is zero titillation. You should be able to distinguish between a fictional situation where you're free to let that freak flag fly and when you should be present in reality.

This is someone who has sandblasted their brain with fetishized violence to the point that the barrier between sexual fantasy and real crime was eroded and it resulted in genuine harm.

At this point in my life I don't really have time or interest in making attempts to justify myself to strangers. This is a boundary I set. I don't want to see it. And yes, I do think it's unhealthy to consume in regularity no matter why you do it.
