In 2024, 1 in 5 new vehicles purchased in WA was zero emission - one of the highest rates in the nation.

As Joel Creswell (ecology.wa.gov) says: “we are a leader in the transition to a clean economy, and that includes our transportation sector.”
cleanandprosperous.bsky.social
WA is leading the charge on clean transportation. 🚙⚡

As EV tax credits expire and federal support is reversed, WA is moving forward with ZEVergreen - a statewide effort helping residents save money & expand access to ZEVs.
cleanandprosperous.bsky.social
Since CA’s program began, the state has invested $820M to deploy 10,500 clean vehicles.

On our Study Mission 2.0 to CA, we learned about HVIP & convened a group that led to WAZIP - a $126M program launching in WA this fall!

Great news from @airresources.bsky.social: Zero-emission vehicles made up nearly a quarter of new medium- & heavy-duty vehicle sales in CA in 2024 - double the state’s target & the highest sales total ever reported⚡🚚
airresources.bsky.social
ZEV momentum in CA is thriving!

Nearly 1 in 4 new trucks, buses, and vans sold in CA are zero-emission—putting the state 2 years ahead of schedule. This is more than double the minimum requirement for 2024 and marks the highest total of ZEV sales ever reported.
Graphic showing the percentage of Zero-Emission Vehicles (ZEVs) delivered for sale in California from 2021 to 2024. The graph demonstrates significant growth, with ZEV sales rising from 1% in 2021 to 23% in 2024, highlighting nearly 1 in 4 trucks, buses, and vans sold in California in 2024 being zero-emission. The chart is branded with the CARB logo.

WA has consistently had one of the most robust EV markets in the country, and we can’t let federal rollbacks stall our progress.

EV drivers in Washington state save an average of $3,700/year on fuel and maintenance, compared to those who drive gas-powered vehicles.

It’s great to see @governorferguson.bsky.social, @caseysixkiller.bsky.social, and @ecology.wa.gov double down on our commitment to EVs.

Electrifying transportation is crucial for meeting our net-zero goals, improving air quality, and mitigating the effects of climate change.

ZEVergreen is charged up and ready to go! While the federal government may be idling, Washington is accelerating toward cleaner, more affordable transportation by exploring ways to lower barriers and expand zero-emission vehicle access.

A year later, we saw them start operations at this first-of-its-kind facility!

The new Sila plant:

👷 Creates 500 jobs
💪 1Mx larger than their CA site

Efficient, abundant batteries are crucial to the clean energy transition - boosting resiliency, EVs, clean power, and cutting pollution.

On Tuesday we attended the opening of Sila’s new manufacturing facility in Moses Lake!

On our 2022 Study Mission 2.0 to CA, we met with Sila to hear their plans to boost battery efficiency by 50% & build a WA site. Last summer, we visited Moses Lake to see progress during Study Mission 4.0.

Beyond savings, EVs are flexible power loads that can store energy & act as virtual power plants - feeding electricity back during peak demand.

Here's how it works: When EVs charge off-peak - when power is cheaper due to decreased demand - they bring in more revenue than costs.

That over-performance puts downward pressure on prices and has already lowered rates for customers.
cleanandprosperous.bsky.social
EVs save you money - and not just on fuel prices.

New research shows that with managed charging, EVs could cut costs for the average American by 10%.
