Reducing pollution is not only good for our health & the climate, it's good for our wallets. Transitioning to EVs frees drivers from volatile global fuel markets.

The Coltura EV Cost Savings Index has WA drivers saving about $3,700/year on fuel and maintenance by switching to electric.

@energyinnovation.org modeled the impacts of the federal gov's attempts to repeal tailpipe emissions standards & the results are devastating for the economy, communities and the air we breathe.

The impact:
- 17K pollution-related premature deaths
- Americans pay $310B more
- 110k jobs annually
Graphic with image of a semi truck with black blowing black exhaust out of two tailpipes on a freeway of other cars and traffic. Below is the title text: “Repealing Tailpipe Standards Would Cost Americans Billion.” Subheading: “If the EPA repeals the Endangerment Finding, Americans could face $310B in higher costs, mostly from gasoline prices.” Bullet points below with summary information: Americans would pay $310B more by 2050, $710B lost from the U.S. GDP and 110K jobs lost annually, 17K premature deaths from increased pollution, EV adoption drops, cutting pollution saves money, jobs and lives. ‘Energy Innovation’ logo in bottom left corner, Clean & Prosperous Washington logo in bottom right corner.

You can save up to $2,000 on a heat pump through federal clean energy tax credits - but they expire Dec. 31, 2025, due to federal rollbacks.

Local govs., like Seattle’s Office of Sustainability & Environment, are stepping up with their own rebates!

Heat pumps are more efficient than gas furnaces & water heaters. They don't rely on fossil fuels meaning improved air quality, reduced pollution & cost savings.

Buildings = 2nd largest share of GHG emissions in WA at nearly 25%. Scaling heat pumps is essential to meet decarbonization goals.
cleanprosperouswa.bsky.social
Last month, WA joined a coalition of 9 other states + D.C. working to increase heat pump adoption.

@canarymedia.com: “Their targets: By 2030, heat pumps will make up 65% of the sales of residential heating, air conditioning & water heating equipment. By 2040, the percentage is to climb to 90%.”
Graphic with orange background and title text: “States Get a Roadmap for Heat-pump Expansion.” Subheading: “WA and 10 other states + D.C. now have a shared plan with 50+ strategies to accelerate cleaner, more efficient heating and cooling.” Image of a heat pump fills the bottom half of the graphic. ‘Canary Media’ logo in bottom left corner, Clean & Prosperous Washington logo in bottom right corner. From the story: “One of the strongest policy tools available to states are cap-and-invest programs…A cap provides certainty that emissions will lower even under a range of uncertain future conditions.”

EDF found that if states fulfill climate commitments, they’ll significantly cut emissions.
cleanprosperouswa.bsky.social
Our friends at @envdefensefund.bsky.social put together a great breakdown of how states can keep advancing Paris-aligned commitments amidst federal retrenchment on climate action & the clean energy transition!

The big takeaway? Follow WA & CA’s lead: implement cap-and-invest!
Graphic with title text: “States Can Lead on Climate and Affordability,” and subheading: “EDP finds state leadership can close the gap to Paris Agreement targets while cutting household costs.” Chart below titled “Reductions in National Climate Pollution if Leadership States Meet 2035 Commitments.” EDF logo in bottom left corner and Clean & Prosperous Washington logo in bottom right corner. Graphic with quote: “Our research suggests that states don’t have to sacrifice climate ambition for affordability, in fact - it’s the opposite. At a time when decreased federal clean energy investment is costing ratepayers, we find that every state we model can use carbon pricing, such as cap-and-invest program, to achieve environmental goals and concurrently actually reduce household electricity costs.” Attributed to Dallas Burtraw, Leading environmental economist. Developing #SAF is key to hitting emissions reduction goals. Aviation, marine & rail = 16% of WA’s greenhouse gas emissions.

Moving from jet fuel to biofuels will cut pollution, create green jobs & boost ag for SAF feedstock.

Even as federal support for clean energy rolls back, the U.S. solar industry isn’t standing still.

Data from @woodmac.com:
- 70M homes suitable for rooftop solar → 1,500 GW potential.
- Currently, 5M homes & commercial buildings produce ~50 GW.
- 150 GW of new residential solar expected by 2050.

In WA, the stakes are high:
🚗 Transportation is our largest source of emissions
⚡ Federal rollbacks could slow the shift to EVs
🌲 State laws like the Clean Energy Transformation Act + #ClimateCommitmentAct keep progress moving
cleanprosperouswa.bsky.social
The EPA plans to revoke its “endangerment finding” - the foundation for regulating greenhouse gases since 2009. This rollback would weaken rules on cars, trucks, and power plants, and slow the nation’s ability to cut emissions.
