Does the study include the emissions impact delta b/w the infrastructure needed for cars vs pedestrian/cycling? Roads, parking, charging, etc?

I didn’t realize that coke was only 3% of total coal consumption. For some reason I assumed it was more. All the more reason they are freaked out about losing energy market share

As a dad I’m firmly in my turn off the lights if you aren’t in the room era. I’m curious about the potential for efficiency measures across the board. From light switches to load-shifting.

In that vein, thinking too about supply chain, cafeterias, conferences

Everyone else here has amazing input.

Any chance any of that precipitation makes it to Central Indiana?

@strongindy.bsky.social @cclusa.org @goodtroubleindiana.org looking for some strong towns-, climate smart-, health-minded individuals to serve as IURC Commissioners!

Energy, environment, and health have been siloed to our great detriment.

Starting to talk to neighbors about it. Change happens one relationship at a time. Sustainable change, that is

Ex: I live 1 mile from an awesome small market with fresh produce, baked goods, amd staple grocery items. I could do at least 50% of my shopping there if only there was a safe sidewalk and crossing. Instead I have to get in my car

"Make cities better" may be the best direction for climate action in these grim times. 80% of Americans live in urban areas. Creating neighborhoods with reliable, frequent public transit, protected active transit, and dense, affordable housing could make US cities *so much better to live in* while..

Watching a panel on "urbanism as climate action." This is a huge, burgeoning field/idea/movement, but the desiccated boomer counsels who decide where climate funding goes are *clueless* about it and so it has to seek funding elsewhere.

It would take ~2k acres—less than 1% of Marion County, and ~7% of Pike Township—to replace the dirty single-cycle turbines of Georgetown Station (340 MW nameplate, 466 GWh annual)

Park 100 still has TONS of untapped warehouse rooftop b/w 56th & 86th

Occasionally, to add some clarity about the scale of the problem before us, I do a calculation like "How many acres of solar to replace the output of the Gibson coal plant? (31k, 9.6% of my county). Or electrify a typical blast furnace steel mill? (100k, 31% of my county)

"Jetson cuts out the middlemen. It buys the heat pumps, stores them in its own warehouses, and has its own in-house installers ride out in the company’s electric vans to put the appliances in homes, [CEO Stephen] Lake said." www.canarymedia.com/articles/hea... via @alisontakemura.bsky.social 🔌💡
This startup says it can halve the cost of a heat pump — here’s how
The Vancouver-based Jetson has a simple cost-cutting formula: lots of tech, no middlemen. Today, it’s launching its own heat pump product.

The simplest are often cheaper and save time too

Like rewilding part of your yard

Mowing less saves time and increases biodiversity

I’d love to see a mayor or gov encourage this
