Today the government announced its plan for the future of North Sea oil and gas, to ‘manage existing oil and gas fields, protect jobs & grow clean energy industries’.

We welcome the halt to issuing new licences to explore new fields, plus initiatives to support our clean energy workforce.

Chancellor Rachel Reeves is reported to be planning a restriction on heat pump subsidies as part of the upcoming budget.

If this happens only people receiving certain benefits will be able to claim support for heat pumps - bringing down costs to the government, but ramping up costs for many.

📄 Yesterday the Tony Blair Institute’s clean power report was released, encouraging the government to shift its route to clean power to prioritise making electricity cheaper. Ministers are considering dropping their target to remove almost all fossil fuels from the UK’s electricity supply by 2030.
