We don't predict the "Day After Tomorrow" but I'm curious about potential impacts on the #AMOC

Our new study is out:

The Arctic Beaufort Gyre is projected to weaken or vanish in most CMIP6 models under future climate change.

The gyre would thus stop storing freshwater in its centre, with possibly large impacts on the Arctic and beyond.

Has the Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation (AMOC) weakened over the last decades? In our new study, we combine state-of-the-art CMIP6 models and observation-based estimates of the air-sea heat flux in the North Atlantic to show that the AMOC has not declined since the 1960s! 🌊

Officially, it's still 24h darkness here. In practice, it is quite bright for 2-3h, similar to summer in Europe when you look to the west at sunrise, especially on a clear day like today.
