⚠️ pathological wet specimens

With double the number of legs (and tails) and an underdeveloped set of wings, this mutated fawn is easily the largest wet specimen of the collection. As if in reverence, it's pillar-like preservation jar has been decorated in ancient symbols.

On the left a deer fetus floats in preservative fluid within a mason jar.

On the right another fawn wet specimen is bottled. In its short life it grew one large, lonely eye in the center of its forehead.

On the left is the largest wet specimen from the first image.

On the right are conjoined twin fawns, sharing an eye and torso. They are stored in a round, glittering bottle with a cork stopper.

An attempt at reconciliation gone wrong.

The deer, hurt by someone important (the maw), wants to talk to them about it. They're very vulnerable-- openly displaying their hurt to the one that hurt them.

The maw responds defensively, as if attacked, framing the deer's emotions as the real problem.

A buck braces himself atop the gaping maw, half of his hooves snagging on its lips. The other half dangles dangerously close to its tongue.

"You hurt me," says the buck, head bowed to flash the threatening points of his antlers. An old bite wound marks his shoulder. Angry tears gather in his eyes.

The maw, too, sheds salty tears. Bloody spittle flies from its fangs as it snarls its answer, "Your volatile reactions hurt me!"

You scramble backwards into the brambles, barely registering their piercing touch in your panic. There's no time left to run. Your heart pounds so loudly that it nearly drowns out the stomp of heavy hooves that follow you. Then... nothing. For a moment you're alone with your heartbeat.

You stifle a scream. Slow, slender fingers curl around the twisted branch that once hid your face, inches from your nose. The branch creaks in protest as it's pulled away. Frozen in terror, you watch as the creature cranes its neck towards you, tilting its skull-faced head almost playfully. Bracing another clawed hand on the ground it leans further forward. Its bottom jaw swings freely on its hinges, settling on an open mock-smile. Found you.
