Cover the Colorado Avalanche for the Denver Post. Previously: Capitals, Devils, Sharks. You can’t take the sky from me.
The gap between the Colorado Avalanche and second place in the NHL standings is the same between second place and 25th.

Scott Wedgewood on his friendly competition with Mackenzie Blackwood:

"I told him to piss off. I give up nine one-goal games and he comes out and gets a shutout and laughs in my face. (pause for laughter) Obviously we are proud of each other and every time we get in there, we are our biggest fans."

Connor Bedard had a very nice first period in this game for the Hawks.

He has been very openly frustrated in the past two periods. #Avs aren't creating much this period, but they've put the clamps down on defense since a bad opening 20 minutes.
November 24, 2025 at 2:24 AM
#Avs lead 1-0 after two periods. That wasn't one of their best periods of the year, but it was pretty good. And the shots on goal were 19-1.
November 24, 2025 at 1:43 AM
And the #Avs have a break through with 1:39 left in the second period.

Cale Makar puts home the rebound of a Tristen Nielsen shot. First NHL point for Nielsen. He picked off an outlet pass by Chicago goalie Spencer Knight.

1-0 Avs

#Avs have drawn three penalties. MacKinnon has only played about a minute to start each of the three PPs, in part b/c he had just taken a long-ish shift ahead of each of them.

Shots are now 17-12 for the Avs in the game, 15-1 in the second period.
November 24, 2025 at 1:37 AM
The #Avs did manage to put the puck on net during that power play. First time this weekend. Baby steps, maybe.

Also, the shots are 11-1 in favor of Colorado in the second period. Avs woke up, though there hasn't been a lot of super-threatening stuff, either.
November 24, 2025 at 1:24 AM
The #Avs have survived the first period at United Center. the shots are 12-2 in favor of the Hawks. One of the two Colorado shots is a Nathan MacKinnon dump-in from the red line.

Scott Wedgewood was excellent. The PK was good. And ... that's it.
November 24, 2025 at 12:45 AM
Shots are now 10-1 for the Hawks at the 15-minute mark. Scott Wedgewood has three great saves, at a minimum.

#Avs have struggled to create offense this weekend at levels unseen this season.
November 24, 2025 at 12:36 AM
Chicago has a 6-1 advantage in shots on goal and Josh Manson just took a tripping penalty after Ilya Mikheyev got behind him.

Scott Wedgewood has made two stellar saves already to keep this 0-0.
November 24, 2025 at 12:30 AM
Pretty rough-looking #Avs power play early in the first in Chicago.

Hawks have put the Bedard line against the MacKinnon line to start this game. Good shift for Chicago to start, then Colorado drew a penalty on the second one.
November 24, 2025 at 12:19 AM
Chicago started 21-0-3 in 2012-13. The Hawks were 18-0-3 through 21 games. Their goal differential in 21 games was +29.

The #Avs goal differential this year through 21 games is +39.
November 23, 2025 at 6:49 PM
There are dozens of wild stats about how dominant the #Avs have been this season.

This might be the craziest: By my math, they have trailed by multiple goals for 54 minutes and 46 seconds this season.

Only happened three times: vs CAR, at BOS, at NJD

Don't see that every day.
November 23, 2025 at 1:55 AM
The #Avs lead 1-0 after 20 minutes. Mackenzie Blackwood made 16 saves.

Good for him, but that's in the running for the worst period of the season by the guys in front of the goaltender.
November 23, 2025 at 1:45 AM
#Avs goalie Mackenzie Blackwood appears to be rust free at this time.

14 saves in less than 17 minutes, at least three Grade-As and that last one on Filip Forsberg was probably the best.
November 23, 2025 at 1:39 AM
Martin Necas just got called for holding up Filip Forsberg in the NZ on a Preds rush ... literally 7 seconds after Nathan MacKinnon got held up in the NZ on an #Avs rush.

MacKinnon was ... not happy with the officials.
November 23, 2025 at 1:34 AM
The #Avs still lead 1-0 at the midpoint of the first period. They have one shot since the Burns goal.

Mackenzie Blackwood is 10-for-10, and the reason it is still a 1-0 lead.
November 23, 2025 at 1:26 AM
#The Avs have scored. That took 15 seconds.

Brent Burns shot from the right point.

1-0 Avs
November 23, 2025 at 1:12 AM
Cale Makar has more goals this season (8) than the entire Nashville defense corps that is dressed tonight (6).
November 23, 2025 at 12:49 AM
#Avs Gavin Brindley is officially week-to-week, per a team official. Will be re-evaluated in “a few weeks.”
November 22, 2025 at 11:31 PM
It just means MORE

(Go Dores!)
November 22, 2025 at 8:39 PM
#Avs have Gabe Landeskog on PP1 this morning in Nashville. Victor Olofsson on PP2, with Jack Drury in place of Gavin Brindley.
November 22, 2025 at 5:45 PM
The Predators will have captain Roman Josi back tonight against the #Avs. He has missed the past 12 games with injury.
November 22, 2025 at 5:37 PM
The humidity in Nashville this afternoon is approximately “how in the absolute £%€* is it this muggy on November 21” percent.
