PhD candidate at UCLA studying housing, local politics, public opinion, and how race runs through it all. @divasunglasses on TikTok. Yes, yes, I am another dude with a podcast: "Reject Modernity, Embrace Tradition"
Why are we still pretending that there is a football game still happening right now?

Nithya Raman is clearly and by a wide margin the most serious candidate in the race for LA mayor and people should vote for her

This is the inevitable result of making cars essentially mandatory to get around and then designing our roads with only the convenience of drivers in mind.
February 6, 2026 at 1:43 AM
Have we considered that safety is a shared responsibility? Was the store wearing dark clothing? Did it dart into the road? It must have come out of nowhere huh?

I am....too old to be taking tests quite frankly
February 3, 2026 at 4:25 AM
I just took a stats exam because I am getting a masters in stats to go along with my PhD (don't ask I'm just a masochist I guess) and while I may have had worse exams...none are immediately coming to mind

I started down the path young

This is who runs this account
February 1, 2026 at 4:25 PM
By far the most narrative setting and worrying result for Republicans of this election cycle

Shrimp is fine, any other fish is suspicious.

The platonic ideal of the California burrito is carne asada con camarones and extra cheese.

I will not be taking questions at this time

And we wonder how these things perpetuated themselves....

I'm in the process of designing a course for the spring quarter at UCLA and spent some time in special collections today.

From the chair of the LA finance committee in 1976: "yeah redlining is terrible but we shouldn't remove city deposits from banks that do it."

I am begging masters programs to do just a little bit of listserv maintenance. I am in my fourth year of a PhD I don't want to do your "masters in business entrepreneurship" ffs
January 29, 2026 at 6:13 PM
Have you considered that safety is a shared responsibility and who can say whether cars are dangerous in and of themselves? Did the kiosk dart out into the road? Why couldn't the kiosk just drive like a normal person instead of getting in the way?
January 25, 2026 at 1:36 AM
That seems to be a pretty sure thing.

I've been completely offline today and only just now saw the news.

I think it's important to understand that this is going to keep happening as long as the Trump administration maintains its present course.

And seeing as this admin is completely incapable of admitting to wrongdoing...

This is insane because

1. The Hybrid was the LPA - they already know what their *own* process said the community wanted.
2. I know for a fact they got somewhere on the order of 10,000 written public comments from South Bay Forward's campaign in recent days.

And they still listened to the NIMBYs
Unanimous for hawthorne. Genuinely what was the point of hahn and dutra pointing out the risk of it never getting built and then still voting for it.
January 22, 2026 at 11:53 PM
Who would do this forcing?
January 22, 2026 at 6:45 PM
The idea that Trump can act entirely unilaterally without needing any sort of base among the public strikes me as misguided. He doesn't have the kind of power consolidated that he would need for such an action. His administration is trying to provoke their own reichstag fire
January 22, 2026 at 6:45 PM
Kinda feels like the Trump admin would love nothing more than to see one of these ICE agents get killed so they can use it as justification for a much more violent crackdown
January 22, 2026 at 5:52 AM
In a sane country that message to the PM of Norway would get the 25th amendment invoked before lunchtime Jesus Christ
January 19, 2026 at 4:34 PM
Look I'm sure there are many actual crimes one could charge Stephen Miller with, but I wouldn't hate it if we invented a new crime of "being Stephen Miller" to charge him with in addition

This was revealed to me in a vision

Ahh the simple pleasure of watching a nice lighthearted film where nothing bad happens to distract from the real world...
