A4 Mindset…. My “Every day you wake up is a good day!” Mantra, our HERO values (Honesty, Effort, Respect, Optimism), John Woodens definition of success…..and just working to improve a little every day but knowing we can’t do it all. “Be quick but don’t hurry” and “Rome wasn’t built in a day” #tlap
Q4: How do you encourage students (or colleagues) to prioritize meaningful experiences over the pressure to do it all?

A3 Oof saying “no” is hard for me….. when I do I usually feel guilty, have anxiety, overthink, and/or then have colleagues who get prickly towards me. Luckily I haven’t been asked do much more than I willingly take on at work. #tlap
Q3: In what ways has saying “no” to unnecessary obligations helped you feel more present and engaged in your learning setting or your personal life? #tlap

A2 I really derive joy from teaching….i look forward to Mondays but outside school it’s my dog. #tlap

A1 Well at my core I am an INFJ on the Myers Briggs but teaching I am really extroverted so the JOMO I get is my extensive recharge time outside school while everyone else buzzes around. #tlap
Q1: JOMO:
Joy of Missing Out.
What does that mean to you? #tlap

A4 Just keeping positive as much as possible—living my “Every day you wake up is a good day!” mantra and trying to be a thermostat rather than a thermometer. #tlap
Q4 As nature reminds us of resilience and growth, how can you apply these lessons to your own journey (personally and/or professionally) in the months ahead?

#Tlap
February 4, 2025 at 1:56 AM
A3 This is what I am trying to figure out. I have always thought about sharing my message/work by writing, doing a podcast, or creating a cartoon series of some sort (I used to love to draw) but there’s a block there—imposter syndromes/not feeling I have enough. #tlap
Q3: Just as nature wakes up in spring, what dormant dreams or ambitions are stirring within you? #tlap
February 4, 2025 at 1:53 AM
A2 This has been the struggle for me. Work life is good, home life is good (great dog to come home to) but trying to find that extra spark of light. Kinda hitting that mid 40s reflection point where life has a dull to it—need to find a spark. #tlap
Q2 How can you bring more light and warmth into your daily routine—both in your work and personal life?

#tlap
February 4, 2025 at 1:48 AM
A1 We are just starting our 3rd Quarter which is always my favorite because kids have hit the wall a bit and are now climbing back. I have a Pax Romana Challenge project that’s a fun competition & then a few “lessons you can sell tickets to” around the Mongols (#donttouchthefish) and Feudalism #tlap
Q1: As the seasons shift from colder months to warmer ones, what fresh energy or inspiration do you hope to emerge (or feel emerging) in your personal and/or professional life? #tlap

This is always one of the greatest compliments you get as an educator—when a student picks you out of all the teachers they have ever had in the district for appreciation. Truly blessed to do what I do.

A4 My HS coach used to say “you either have character or you are a character” and I firmly believe that it’s something we learn and adapt along the way. Education to me is largely character development through different modalities (subjects) #tlap
Q4 "Character is more than just having principles. It's a learned capacity to live by your principles."

A3 I often talk about the different types of stress with students & how I strive to create learning opportunities that create the positive stress—we don’t grow if everything is easy…but we also have to have some stuff that’s easy and “a win”. When they get what you are doing they are empowered #tlap
Q3 How does this Adam Grant quote relate to you or your learners? #tlap
January 14, 2025 at 1:56 AM
A2 My whole approach is around mindset & I instill my motto of “Every day you wake up is a good day” into my Ss with the idea that we don’t “have to” we “get to”….that and gamification… provide positive challenges. #tlap
Q2 "The best way to unlock hidden potential isn't to suffer through the daily grind. It's to transform the daily grind into a source of daily joy."

Q2 How does this quote relate to you or your learners?
January 14, 2025 at 1:50 AM
A1 This is a CONSTANT convo with my Ss who too often stop at the smallest challenge. I use a pebbles/boulder metaphor (“pebbles”=easy etc) & I share how I saw no hope until my dad went to rehab in 9th grade. A lot of perspective talk. Need to move boulders, have faith, prepare for unseen. #tlap
"It's often said that where there's a will there's a way. What we overlook is that when people can't see a path, they stop dreaming of the destination." - Adam Grant

A4 There’s something about my Mongols lesson that every year it seems to be the moment things “click” for kids because they are so barbaric but then so structured and open—and w/o then we aren’t here on our timeline—yet they killed 40 million people. #donttouchthefish #tlap
Q4 What's one lesson or activity you've taught that was inspired by a fresh perspective or creative approach?

A3 Our nation is so divided & the focus on how we teach—I have found comfort in that my content (Global from Paleolithic— Exploration) allows me to focus on enduring issues & skills in developing a value in looking at the different perspectives—& sourcing—w/o touching hot buttons all the time #tlap
Q3 What challenges have you faced in bringing new perspectives to your lessons?

#tlap @drjennacopper.bsky.social @burgessdave.bsky.social

A2 Providing historical evidence from both sides when available. Getting students to actively think about point of view. We have been incorporating the HIPPO acronym as a department this year. It’s helped. #tlap
Q2 How do you currently help your students explore different perspectives in your lessons?

#tlap
@drjennacopper.bsky.social @burgessdave.bsky.social
January 7, 2025 at 1:47 AM
A1 I think that it’s vital to look at things from multiple points of view because that’s how you truly understand something. There are 3 sides to every story “yours” “theirs” and the “truth” . You find truth form multiple pov’s #tlap
Q1 Why do you think it's important for students to see topics from different perspectives?
