💬 “The culture of impunity has been entrenched in the Sudanese justice system for decades,” signals Mossaad Mohamed Ali, Executive Director of the African Centre for Justice and Peace Studies (ACJPS). "Given this judicial vacuum in Sudan, the ICC has come to fill this gap, particularly in Darfur.”

💬 “While far more remains to be done to dismantle Sudan’s entrenched culture of impunity, this judgement is a momentous, unprecedented step in that direction,” highlights Caitlan Lloyd, Legal Officer at @redress.org.

For civil society and survivors, this verdict represents both vindication and warning:
🔵 A vindication that the cycle of impunity, however entrenched, can be broken; and

🔵 A warning that justice remains incomplete while other ICC arrest warrants remain unexecuted.

"Justice may arrive late, but for Darfur’s victims, it still matters," underlines @dnhr.bsky.social.

This was the first & only trial to date to result from the United Nations Security Council’s referral of the situation in Darfur, Sudan in 2005, 20 years ago.

Former President Duterte’s first ICC appearance in March 2025 marked a major step toward accountability.

Though the confirmation of charges hearing is postponed, hopes remain high: civil society sees it as the first formal recognition of victims’ voices.

Sanctions are a tool to be used against those responsible for the most serious international crimes, not against those seeking justice.

To sanction #NGOVoices for their pursuit of accountability is a profound attack on the very foundations of the international justice system.
coalitionfortheicc.org
We condemn the shameful sanctions imposed by the U.S. against Palestinian #NGOVoices in the strongest terms possible, standing in full solidarity with @alhaq.bsky.social, @almezan.bsky.social & PCHR, as well as with their staff & the communities they serve.

By targeting judges, prosecutors, and those who cooperate with the Court, these measures strike at the heart of international justice itself and assault the fundamental principle that no one is above the law.

Sanctions cannot silence justice: Civil society condemns new U.S. measures against ICC Judges and Deputy Prosecutors | Coalition for the International Criminal Court
coalitionfortheicc.org
coalitionfortheicc.org
‼️ These measures build on the earlier sanctions against the ICC Prosecutor and four ICC judges, forming part of a clear campaign of pressure and obstruct the Court. They seek to intimidate the ICC's elected officials and, more gravely, to strip victims of their right to justice.
coalitionfortheicc.org
On 20 August, the U.S. announced designations for sanctions against two judges & the Deputy Prosecutors of the International Criminal Court.

We urge ICC States Parties to show, through decisive action, that the rule of law cannot be bent by intimidation.
