Start off with the assumption that everything he says is a lie. Statistics will be on your side. If he says, “The sky is blue,” look outside to make sure it isn’t green.

So-called social media isn’t addictive by happenstance; it is literally designed that way.

Nearly every person you see walking down the street with their face down in their phone is an addict.

Did you have to look up from reading this to confirm that statement?

If 2025 were a drink, it would be a colonoscopy prep.

If you don’t care about the ostensibly contemptible, corrosive effect of so-called AI on society, then maybe this will get your attention: the huge rush into building data centers does not add up in a cost-benefit equation. It’s not even close.

It’s rather sad that “I was taking an NJ Transit train” has become an excuse one can give to one’s boss to explain a late arrival at work, and no further details are required.
December 4, 2025 at 1:20 PM
No one should EVER rely on NJ Transit trains. They're as dependable as a schizophrenic goldfish.
November 20, 2025 at 1:47 PM
I didn't trust #NJTransit to get me into NYP on time for a 9 a.m. appointment, even though the schedule says I should be fine. So, I took an earlier train, just to be safe. That train is now being diverted to Hoboken, and is running very late at that. Why does anyone trust this railroad?

I couldn’t have said it better myself: “If a company uses AI art or videos in their advertising, I automatically assume I’m going to get scammed.”

I’ll know the tide has finally turned against so-called AI when antivirus scanners begin flagging applications that contain hooks for it.

DoorDash is an IQ test. Do you want a cheeseburger for $27, or will you go pick it up for $6?

Capitalism is based on the idea that you can enjoy limitless growth in a closed, finite system. In biology, this behavior in cells is referred to as cancer.

This morning’s interaction with police officers at the Veterans Courthouse reminded me that you can be firm and professional in law enforcement without being a performative douchebag, like the officer I encountered yesterday. I feel a lot safer today.
November 6, 2025 at 2:59 PM
After I was verbally lambasted by a security officer at the Veterans Courthouse in Newark this morning for an “attitude” that was actually his own, I wondered if he was having a really shitty time in his life right now. And then, consciously, I decided that I really don’t care.

The latest scam ecosystem to take over my Instagram feed are movie clips that have gambling site URLs pasted into the frame. You know it's a scam if someone has to resort to this crap to sell it.

I cannot grasp what anyone could enjoy about cold pizza. It's objectively disgusting to me.

You see a stack of computer books from 1995 to 2007. I see most of my career in two neatly heterogenous piles.

Microsoft’s main web site has a title of “Microsoft – AI, Cloud, Productivity, Computing, Gaming & Apps”. This seems reasonable, since Microsoft now thinks selling useless AI and cloud features is much more important than productivity.

I was really worried that both my east and westbound NJ Transit trains yesterday were fully on time. It was really unnerving. But today, my faith in NJT is restored as we are here in the Hudson River tunnel, and the crew seems to be engaging the hand brakes. #waytogo

Rupert Pratt lived many lives: the son of a small farming community in West Virginia, a college student, a member of the USAF, an incredibly lucky plane crash survivor, a determined parent, a doting grandfather, and in retirement, a writer. But above all, he was a teacher.
