Salvaging urban trees and transforming them into custom furniture. As a driver of a circular economy, I use all my scraps to make charcuterie boards, coasters, and earrings. Online at: Confluencewoodcraft.com

It is amazing and daunting and beautiful and dated and strangely relevant. Enjoy!
With 1,000 custom drink tokens, Aspen needed a place for drinkers to “deposit” them. #woodworking #reclaimed #aspen #laserengraved #custom
I love celebrating unique, 1-off projects, but sometimes woodworking is production work. Cranking out 1,000 of anything is a challenge for a solo entrepreneur. Saturday night working to deadline… #woodwork #woodworking #entrepreneur #business
New project for a new client. 1,000 tokens from vintage Aspen barn siding. #woodwork #art #production #smallbusiness #notetsy
Tomorrow night this space will be filled with holiday shoppers enjoying what looks to be a warmer evening than last year’s Christmas Market. Tonight I took a moment to enjoy the peace as the moon hung above. #holiday #christmas #winter #night #woodworking #gjincubator
I design and make all my own packaging for my coasters and earrings. I love the creative expression and control it offers, but the late nights can be a drag. It does help that my “printer” shoots laser beams. #packaging #wood #paper #art #laser
Fire and Ice. Laser cut ornaments in old Aspen barn wood. #woodworking #Wood #art #laser #winter
When I first started, there was a high-end cabinetry shop next door. They filled dumpsters with hardwood drop and trim. I used to sneak into the dumpster and grab a stick or two most evenings. Once I asked about a specific piece and they offered their forklift for the whole load. Trim Lamp in oak
I often bring a piece into my studio that catches my eye and spend a year or more walking by it, waiting for it to be ready and for me to be ready to see the path forward. This piece took almost two years before I saw the way.
Grey and Gold End Table - this end table showcases the brilliant character of wood by contrasting a dark grain resin fill against the glow of the gold through brown color of this stump. Steel bar spar across a prominent crack. #woodworking #art #furniture #reclaimed #cottonwood
Creating my furniture generates a lot of drop (trim, cutoff, scrap). Instead of tossing it, I save it and make earrings.

Thank you. It was a fun project and was so successful that the Library Foundation received a bunch of additional donations after the project so the donor could get a “book” on the wall.
Mesa County Libraries and the Mesa County Library Foundation built an amazing new branch library in Clifton Colorado and I had the opportunity to create the Donor Recognition Wall. Inspired by the books, I created donor plaques for each donor like the spine of a book. All from local reclaimed wood.
Here’s a closeup of the stack of three layers. Each one is treated with a different patina so the layers show through the negative spaces of the layer above it.
I had the opportunity to create the 2024 EDIE Awards for the Economic Development Council of Colorado. The awards were announced at the EDCC’s annual conference which was held in Beaver Creek, Colorado this year. I built the award out of a hollow Aspen log that frames a layered steel core.
It is an interesting wood to work with. Bottom of most people’s list of wood to turn to, but I love the character of the wood. Most cottonwood trees have lived hard lives and have acquired plenty of interesting detail.
It’s a long span and definitely has some dynamic nature to it. In fact the feet on the legs are designed to allow for that motion. Trees move in the wind. This bench sags a little when seated upon. It makes for a lovely seat. Especially located at the foot of a bed.
Stitched River Bench explores spars stitching across the resin pour of this bench. Made from pieces of worm eaten cottonwood, the bench celebrates the character of wood and is emblematic of my “flaws are features” approach.

Sign work in progress. The second coat of spar varnish on this exterior sign is really highlighting the grain of the cottonwood on this sign for Castle Valley Inn. #wip #woodwork #reclaimedwood
