“…the inclusion of composable moderation & algorithmic feeds already gives me a way better experience than any other social media platform, & it does so not in the service of any billionaire, but rather in service of me, the user. And that is incredibly encouraging as a start.” @mmasnick.bsky.social

Welcome!

The real power of Bluesky lies in ✨Feeds✨.

Go to bsky menu > # Feeds

You can look for your hobbies, fandoms or anything else. They're custom dynamic algorithmic timelines created by other users that you can pin to your home.

A recommended one is "For You" created by @skygaze.io 😌

Bluesky looks and functions like Twitter at the outset, but the platform stands out because of what lies under the hood.

Building a great social experience isn't just eng—there are tons of nuanced, non-tech decisions—but the eng is necessary (and very hard). The beauty of at proto is it abstracts away a lot of the eng work so people _can_ focus on the hard non-eng work
As for who else would build? Here are some 3rd party devs who are going to be better at answering this ques @retr0-id.translate.goog @jett.ai @cooperedmunds.bsky.social @avellal14.bsky.social @mozzius.dev

This post is being served from these machines now!

All posts are!

The files are inside the computer!
Back in half-sunny California after setting up Bluesky's (small) US East PoP ("datacenter") right in the midst of the big players in Northern Virginia.

Few days of racking, stacking, labeling, and cabling followed by a couple days of recovering from food poisoning from Nandos.

Heavily requested feature: mute ✨topics✨

It took ~30s (after signing in) to mute 4 categories and improved my feed a lot

Two goals:
1) For You gives you what you want; no need to look under the hood or tweak anything
2) If you’re interested, you can fully understand and control your algorithm

People trying out Bluesky expect #1–without it they’ll leave. But I hope #2 shows them this place is different & special

The @skygaze.io HQ if GPT-4 could process and label 1,000 posts within 2 seconds (and not bankrupt me)

You can do the Markdown syntax [text](link) or just this:
2.2.0+415 is up!

- Really excited about this one: you can now PASTE LINKS ON SELECTED TEXT!
- Provided you have a link in your clipboard, just select text like in the images below, hit Cmd/Ctrl+V (or the Paste right-click option), and deck.blue will format that link in the Markdown-style!

Thank god that composite index did the trick… I was about to have to ask GPT how to partition a table for the 14th time

On days of big growth, it’s motivating to imagine a future point at which today’s numbers will seem tiny and disappointing. “20k sign ups? Damn, slow day”
