The cover of fantasy adventure series Magic of Myths subtitle: Following Darkness Like a Dream), which shows the protagonist Eve in her glowing Roman armour, standing before a stone statue of fae Robin and a mysterious owl. Drawn by comic artist, illustrator and series co-creator Sergio Calvet. The graphic novel cover of transmedia series Clockwork Watch: The Arrival, with a Sikh family (mother, father and son) in front of a steampunk background of Victorian era London, featuring Big Ben and airships. The lion and horse crest of the Clockwork Watch organisation sits at the bottom of the cover, along with the creator credits of Jennie Gyllblad, Corey Brotherson and Yomi Ayeni. The title logo of Windrush Tales, featuring the 3-Fold Games logo, and colourful ephemera, including flowers/plants, a suitcase, a fountain pen and a London street lamp. Ha, somewhere in the multiverse, a variant me and the creative team are already creating a sequel...

A couple of years ago I was hired by to write a kids' book which featured a Black family.

It was one of the most fun things I'd ever written.

It was pitched to many publishers.

Feedback was great.

Guess how many publishers picked it up?

One of the things about this study is that a lot of baby and toddler books are written in house, by editors. So the study reveals the whiteness of editorial in kidlit even if not explicitly. But, big picture, this trend is unacceptable. I remember so many promises www.theguardian.com/books/2025/o...
‘Catastrophic decline’ in Black representation in children’s books
A report by charity Inclusive Books for Children found that of the 2,721 books surveyed, only 51 featured a Black main character, down by 21.5% since 2023

It might have to be sugary sweets, knowing what caffeine can do me... 💀

And thank you, let's hope the pit is not full of cats 💀💀
coreybrotherson.bsky.social
This week has absolutely done a number on me to the point where I'm barely coherent at the moment (sorry @absintheuse.bsky.social, I'll def be less wiped out at VIVA! than I was in the meeting just now).

I'm going to feed the cats (again?), make some laksa and then...find a quiet pit for the night

Yup, true. The market is incredibly narrow. And, to be honest, we're also at a point where a number of players will simply stick to what they know, even outside of the live service games, especially known IP or brand. Not to mention external competition vying for eyeballs.
coreybrotherson.bsky.social
And this is why there were some indies who felt hard done by when the Silksong release date dropped, or had to move the launch of their game because of it.

The market is too crowded, audience attention too skewed and too much to risk, especially in the current redundancy shitstorm we're in.

According to Circana, over 60% of gamers in the United States now buy two or fewer games per year as more shift focus to free-to-play titles like Fortnite.

I'm featured in several books and magazines. Next year, I feature my 1st book! It's the FIRST of it's kind in the field from a unique perspective from my experience as a #videogamecomposer.

Note: This is a cover mock-up. This is not the final cover by any means.

For real.

I am *fuming*.

But that's just a regular day for us right now, I guess.
coreybrotherson.bsky.social
And I was so damned calm when I got up this morning, too.

Now I've gone back to listening to Run the Jewels in an attempt to stay sane through the red mist

Like, @samanthabeart.bsky.social and I were only recently talking about us both being English degree graduates, and laying down the foundations for where we are today and the work we do.

This shit literally ain't rocket science - which is exactly the point.

Hey kids!

Remember when the pandemic struck and eventually the (Tory) government told everyone to stay at home, and the arts and entertainment industries were one of the few things keeping everyone from pulling our own eyes out of our skulls from abject fear and boredom?

Remember that?

How is this repeatedly made into a policy issue - by *all* parties - when the blunt fact of the matter is that grown adults who are obliged to pay for their own education, and relentlessly pursued to repay their loans, should be able to study whatever the fuck they want.

I shall call for the National Guard. I'd come myself, but... I'd surely be eaten before I leave the doorstep at this rate.

In the meantime... I... I shall pray for your good soul.

The army of red and black are not to be trifled with.
coreybrotherson.bsky.social
They want you to imagine it. Ladybirds have the best propaganda to cover their heinous crimes.

They know, Dan. They know your dreams. Your nightmares. YOUR VERY SOUL.
coreybrotherson.bsky.social
'Tis a blessing.

For once, they were my saviours, too.

But now... now I am but a tool for the accursed coat of red and black.
coreybrotherson.bsky.social
Nooooo, how did they get in?

Are you safe?

Kate... blink twice if the ladybirds are holding you hostage 👀
coreybrotherson.bsky.social
There's been a ladybird invasion in my back garden, with dozens of them flying around and crawling on things. Just out of nowhere.

Fully expect a war between them and the giant spiders. Whosoever wins, we lose.

I, for one, welcome our new ladybird overlords.

Foxy Shazam's Oh Lord was a great choice for Peacemaker S2 since episode 1, but JFC does it hit like a truck now.

It drives me absolutely batshit that someone in Google's UX and UI team thought it would be a great idea to sandwich the 'please keep this email unread' button between the 'delete this fucking email now with extreme prejudice' and the 'block (but I'll give you a light are you sure prompt)' buttons

This is also one of the reasons why I'm especially keen to get a COVID booster ASAP (turns out she can't have hers so close to her op) - you can help out by getting a tarot reading if you fancy 🔮 bsky.app/profile/ecms...

I don't qualify for a COVID booster this year due to tightened restrictions but have found a local pharmacy who'll do one privately... for just over £100 🙃

Cheeky little October tarot reading, anyone?

A photo of my cream British Shorthair cat Mori curled up comfily on the floor, looking at the camera as The Moon tarot card from the Rider Waite Smith deck leans up against his perfectly loafly side. He looks both tolerant and content in equal measure - he is an extremely chill little dude.
