I just canceled my membership to Mensa. I was a member for decades, but I really got nothing from it. The few events I attended were just not for me.

The organization and its members did nothing wrong. I just realized that I was a member on paper only. I can't see myself ever participating, so 🤷

It’s not about being antisocial. It’s about socializing 1:1 in meaningful ways vs conforming to the expectations of a group.

This time, it’s the term “otrovert”.

It’s in the same space as introvert and extrovert; it just means “other”.

Fundamentally, it’s about belonging. Specifically, for people (like me) who 1) have never felt like they belonged, and more importantly 2) are just fine with that feeling.

As some of you know, I’m a skeptic. Not a cynic or thought bully. I just prefer things to be backed by evidence.

As such, I’m very slow to adopt a new idea, and doubly-so to say “Oh wow! That’s me!”

Happened once before when I first heard of synesthesia.

Just happened again.
