Our forecasts for Jan 26 say bills will fall to £1,725 p/a for a typical dual fuel household, £30 lower than October's cap. This includes the expected Nuclear Regulated Asset Base levy.

In April 26 the cap is forecast to climb by over £100, driven by non-wholesale costs.

However, while the wholesale part of the bill is predicted to reduce, the January cap is expected to introduce new non-wholesale elements. Chief among these is the Regulated Asset Base (RAB) - to support investment in nuclear power stations - expected to add just under £10 a year to a typical bill.

Today @ofgem.gov.uk has announced that from October, energy prices will rise by 2% to £1,755 for a typical dual-fuel household, but could January bring some relief?

While this increase is not good news, there is hope with January forecasts currently showing a fall to an average £1,712 a year.
cornwallinsight.bsky.social
What's impacting the cap?

📈 Expansion of the Warm Home Discount scheme - adding ~£15 to typical bills while supporting 2.7 million additional vulnerable households with £150 support.

📉 Volatile but generally declining wholesale prices.

📈 Adjustments to the modelling of certain inputs for the cap.

The decision to rule out zonal pricing brings some clarity, but doesn't solve the issues blighting the GB's energy market, & shouldn't delay reform.

The government has made its choice. Now, it must lead reform with the urgency and seriousness this moment demands.

Another small decrease is forecast in January, but a volatile market and changes to the non-wholesale costs mean forecasts remain subject to change.

Breakdown of October 2025 forecasts:
Standing Charge (£/day): Elec-0.51, Gas-0.30
Unit Costs (p/kWh): Elec-26.17, Gas-6.02

Two weeks ago, geopolitical tensions in the Middle East pushed our forecast to a peak of £1,777. Since then, wholesale prices have dropped and, coupled with adjustments to non-wholesale costs, have nudged the forecast downward. But the cap is still hundreds of pounds higher than pre-pandemic levels.
cornwallinsight.bsky.social
As the July price cap falls, we have released updated predictions for Oct – Dec 2025, with the cap expected to drop slightly to £1,698 a year for a typical dual fuel household. £22 lower than July, and 1% down.
