He's out like a light the second his head meets Simon's chest and his Lieutenant wraps his arms around him to keep him upright. He can feel his Sergeant's at his flank-- guarding their superiors. The ride back is only 20 minutes. Simon lets John sleep.

There's very little wiggle room in the truck driving back to base and they're all packed inside like sardines. Doesn't stop Simon from using his body to cover Price's out of sight just as his Captain begins to fall. Price is fine, just exhausted.

And then there's Price. Stubborn man almost refuses to sleep and it frustrates Simon to no end. He's tried to convince the old man to rest his eyes-- have a nap, even if it's for 15 minutes. It's only at the end of a long mission when Simon catches it. The way Price sways where he stands.

of blankets and his team's jackets, but his nose is stuffy and lying flat makes it difficult to breathe. Simon doesn't hesitate to wiggle under Johnny's head to elevate it, shoulders relaxing when he can hear the sergeant's breaths even out so he's not wheezing any more.

Poor Johnny's who's all stuffy after a dunk in an ice cold lake. It was a scare at first, but he was a big boy. He'd pulled himself up and out of the ice thankfully quickly and they'd had to bundle to the exfil truck quickly afterwards.

He's thankfully okay and mostly warmed up under a pile

Kyle who got a little bruised up during an op, falling asleep comfortably on the cushion of Simon's shoulder, little puffs of warm air against Simon's neck. A reassurance that he's alive and breathing. The flight back is 7 hours. Simon doesn't move an inch for the entirety.

Guard dog Simon 'Ghost' Riley who puffs his chest out in pride whenever his teammates fall asleep on him. It's no secret he's the biggest of them and, therefore, the comfiest to lie on. He's excellent at staying still for long periods of time and his glare is enough to keep anyone away.

but yes they do rescue him and Nik DOES save him and carries him out there bridal style and when John's taken from him when they land back at base for medical attention, Nik's choosing a wedding ring to put on that man because he's never letting him go :)

And Nik very quickly realises just how BADLY he messed up by just not,, communicating how he felt from the get go. And there's even more regret when he realises a lot of this could have been avoided if he'd just been honest and not a coward.

And they DO find Price alive ofc, just a POW and they rescue him
Cue Nik finding Price half dead and trying to coax him to stand but Price not thinking he's real because Nik wouldn't have bothered coming to try and find him-- he's not stupid enough and definitely not in love enough to rescue Price

okay so context to this thread: I actually forgot to add one more comment on the end because I wrote it so early in the morning and posted it too soon ASFDBGNH
It was basically Nik felt a ton of guilt for ending it with Price as he did (he'd never been in love before and panicked essentially)

Kate tells Nik that she hopes if it’s the latter, he at least died quickly. Nik mirrors the sentiment.

He turns and leaves without saying another word—

Nik doesn’t hear from him for weeks. Kate doesn’t tell him anything even when he asks.

But it’s still Kate who tells him about Price’s disappearance during a solo op. Occasional updates and then radio silence for almost a month.

The word echo in his head and Price clenches his fists by his sides.

“Go and fuck yourself, Nikolai.”

And here Price was, thinking that they had something more. Something real. Nik turns so his back is facing him and Price wants to fight— but he can’t find the energy to.

Price isn’t naïve enough to not know where this conversation is heading. He doesn’t want to believe it.

“What’s crawled up your arse and died?” He snaps.

“Stop acting like what he had was special. You were passing fancy, nothing more. A bit of fun.”

It’s hard not to kiss the way Nik says ‘Captain’. Not his first or even last name.

“I had rather get back to working on my heli than standing here talking to you.”

And it’s several minutes of this back and forth chatter that feels like there’s a rift forming between them despite Price’s best efforts to coax an explanation out of Nik.

“What’s going on?”

Tries to reach out to take Nik’s hand and some part of him breaks when Nik moves away before he can even touch him.

“Nik?”

“I’m fine, Captain. I’m sure you have better things to be doing with your time.”

Price tries to give Nik the benefit of the doubt. Maybe he’d just had to leave in a rush or something, shit happens right?

Finds him later on in the day repairing his heli and calls out to him like nothing’s wrong.
