We published our first essay 10 years ago today on @ageofrevolutions.bsky.social. It was based on a side idea I had for my dissertation that would explore news of Franklin’s death around the revolutionary Atlantic. ageofrevolutions.com/2015/11/21/f...

Quick ep. 2 review of Ken Burns American Rev.

- better than ep. 1, because of the section on the Dec. of Independence
- the first 90 minutes were still too fast
- he should have modeled the entire series around the last 30 minutes on the Declaration
- show the last 30 min in the class room

So what Ken Burns is saying is that the Declaration of Independence was and is still important. Who knew? #hatm

The section on the Declaration of Independence is the best in the Burns doc so far.

I'd argue it's because he give it time to be explored. Would have liked to have seen more of this throughout

There is some goodness in Burns look at independence, esp. on its importance for foreign alliances...

But still seems like there's not enough build up for such an important moment.

Others themes like oaths, religion, foreign soliders, etc. have been mentioned, but they to be linked.

Burns did a good job on GW's changes on African American soldiers...

There are a number of factors at play...necessity certainly, but also recognition of the valiant service of the Black soldiers who had already served

Quick review of Ken Burns' American Revolution...it was just too fast. Tried to do too much too quickly.

Hit some key points, with some different perspectives, but lacked depth and nuance.

Also, I'm the special surprise guest on #hatm tonight...
Will Ken Burns’ American Revolution deify, vilify, or humanize the Founders? Will it advance a clear interpretation or will it let the viewer decide? Will it give us anything new, or just present what historians have been arguing about for years?

Find out tonight…

Before you watch Ken Burns’ #AmericanRevolution refresh yourself on his Benjamin Franklin documentary.

Will the new version stay “centrist” and have all the same successes and flaws?
