A big thank you to our friends from HDR Foundation! Their investment will support CRCL’s HQ and native plants nursery growth with materials for new elevated ponds, air pruning beds for cypress seeds and lumber for a new dock!🌱🪵🌊

Tom DeCarlo took this image during construction of our oyster shell reef at Cocodrie. According to Brian Roberts, executive director of LUMCON and member of our Coastal Advisory Council, the boardwalk was built over the shoreline, which has receded since. The oyster shell will help slow recession.

A new addition to Restoration HQ! 🌱

Our restoration team collected 2,000 mangrove propagules and potted them in our greenhouse. Once they grow, we’ll plant them to help mitigate erosion and provide crucial habitat. We made sure to collect local genetics to increase their chances of survival.

Last week, CRCL hosted a boat tour of Neptune Pass. CRCL’s executive director, Kimberly Davis Reyher, and communications director, James Karst, ventured alongside GNO Inc., finding a bustling ecosystem and a large plot of walkable land in Quarantine Bay that is just starting to vegetate.

We found a lot of treasure in our shell pile at the reef build!🍴🧜‍♀️ We're looking for artists & makers who can repurpose silverware & sauce cups that make their way into our oyster shell recycling bins. There's a whole more where this came from so don't be shy! Email [email protected] to claim!

Cypress trees during golden hour >>>>

And look at all those seeds! If you come across a bald cypress tree, you can collect its seeds and send them to us as part of our native seed drive! They’ll grow in our native plant nursery then be planted along the coast!

Our volunteers planted 25,000 plug of native dune grass along 2 miles of Grand Isle beach. This will help retain sand to develop dunes, limiting erosion and providing habitat!

Jefferson Parish Ecosystem & Coastal Management Department and CRCL are thankful to the CPRA for supporting this project!
