I’m heartbroken over the story of #KyrenLacey. A sh*t situation didn’t have to frame other drivers. The Louisiana patrol involved should resign. I hope it gets the coverage it deserves. It’s a little outside the box, but could be good for @thewaroncars.bsky.social youtu.be/qXuQagG_64k?...

Most of the growth has been sprawl, which is great for adding housing units, but it’s not sustainable and deceives ppl into thinking they are independent and self sustaining. We are not growing vibrant places that thrive and on public services different ideas. Also, TX dems have been bad on housing

I can see colleges buying them and limiting access to students and staff, maybe alumni. Could be a great benefit, especially if they can also be commute shuttles. Would be great to tax deadhead miles

Behavior change is hard, but financial incentives make a difference. Offer something of value (reserved parking) and people will pay. blog.palisadestahoe.com/general/toge...

Alcohol is the preferred blame for road violence, but it’s just one factor. Speed is dangerous, even without factors like drowsiness, distraction, intoxication, etc @txdot.bsky.social @ntsb-bot.bsky.social

LA's single-stair motion has been adopted!

And I very much appreciate these quotes from two moms of young kids on our council. More family-sized housing please!

Most people don’t feel the cost every trip. I agree that the economics make sense to go car-lite, but the big switch is hard for many. When my car was hit, I had to ask the insurance co to give me cash instead of a rental. Far better for me but they really had to get creative to do it(🇺🇸 perspective)

I agree & I hope you are right but per trip fees are low, and it will take a lot to get to the tipping point to give up the car. I do see many couples going to one car, which is a notable success. Hopefully college students stop bringing cars, but we need progressive policies that nudge the behavior

AVs will need to park to charge, but still a huge advantage. Uber & Lyft offer the same advantage today, which has revolutionized some sectors (including travel), but driving personal cars still feels free because it’s mostly a sunk cost, with subsidized roads and parking most places.

It won’t be cheap, so I expect shuttles will be the next step, which is a big improvement over single occupancy driver vehicles. I hope AVs finally challenge the standard parking commuter benefit, which needs an overhaul anyway.

Spoiler alert: not much punishment. Lack of jail time aside, why is it so hard to take a drivers license away?
February 16, 2025 at 4:14 PM
I know @thewaroncars.bsky.social usually focuses on car ads, but the Rocket ad feels like a “drive to qualify” mortgage message. Leaving the big city, “country roads” harmony … it’s honestly a great ad, and there’s a message for how cities have not built housing & driving far away to buy a home
