idk. like i can't really take issue with a game that lets me dress up in cute outfits and take pictures with my pokemon ☺️ i am adorable and in the end that's all that really matters 🩷

maybe I'm just the type of person who's good at overlooking flaws in a work if I'm emotionally invested in it enough. at the end of the day i don't really care about texture quality or recycled animations or lack of voice acting; i am engrossed in this universe and having a blast. isn't that enough

what does "soulless" even mean here anyway, it's not a living creature of course it doesn't have a soul. i assume it's some kind of vibes-based deal where people nitpick every minor detail and conclude that zero effort was put into making the game. like that Dark Empath thing but for video games

i guess it's...whatever. if you didn't like it that's your right, i won't force you to enjoy the newest product from one of the most profitable gaming companies in the world. but is a little dose of nuance too much to ask for. I'd be less annoyed if the criticisms actually made a modicum of sense

i mean i shouldn't be complaining about pokemon fans having dogshit takes on social media, i have been exposed to this same old song and dance for almost as long as I've been playing pokemon. it's just so tiring the game has been out for like 3 days and we're already back to doing this shit

"z-a is too different just for the sake of being different but also it's too similar to the old games it's so lazy and sloppy and uninspired and the story is boring and the characters don't stand out enough but also they stand out too much. and also the game has no soul. but i still had fun"

and then 3d world felt kinda off at first, i couldn't tell if it was supposed to be more like the 2d or 3d marios, but i also like the game's presentation AND it feels good to play through! I'm waiting to finish the main game before tackling bowser's fury but i have high hopes for that campaign

i do find the baby yoshis adorable, especially with how they sing during levels 🥺 gameplay wise this is far from the best the series has seen but i really am captivated by the presentation and theming. every level has a unique name, enemies still do the BAH-BAHs, it's just so charming to see

i guess you're encouraged to use the items in your inventory before you start the level, since you can only hold up to 10 or so before they prevent you from carrying any more, but like...why tho? and are we still only allowing you to save the game after you beat a boss? this isn't the 80s anymore!

was gonna say "you can't even use toadette without making it Easy Mode" but if they aren't gonna let me keep the star coins i collect if i die before finishing the level then i deserve a break. there's no spare powerup box either so i have half as much health and it just feels like a big fuck you

i like u deluxe because it reminds me of playing nsmb wii at my friends' and cousins' houses growing up. the presentation is well done, everything feels squeaky clean, but it just feels so much worse after playing through wonder. the level design can be downright mean at times. it's such a slog

wonder is great because of the wide variety of characters, online features that aren't intrusive but turn the game into a heartwarming shared experience, no timer so you can explore levels at your leisure, badges to customize your playstyle...it really is the pinnacle of 2d platforming i think

scoured through my recent posts only to realize i have not talked about the mario binge I've been on lately. wonder is hands down my new favorite mario game, with 3d world having grown on me as well. i liked nsmbu deluxe at first but after playing the other two it just feels so arbitrarily punishing

ever since playing wonder recently i have fallen in love with toadette. out of all the mario women she's the one that's most Normal yknow. she's literally a generic npc who is also a girl. daisy is the tomboy, peach is the high femme, but toadette's whole existence is just Girl. and she's awesome 🥰

at that time most of the media attention around trans people involved laverne cox and caitlyn jenner, which...yknow. not the best time for your egg to crack. but discovering an album called Transgender Dysphoria Blues was like THE thing that made me go "wait i can be a girl? I'm allowed to do that?"
