Let us never forget

when the night
envelops us;

and there are
no stars in the sky;

and no lantern
can be found;

and our path
is shadowed gray;

that we carry the light
in our hearts.

There's nothing in the world like finally completing a big, important, intimidating, difficult, frustrating task.

Done and done.

Good riddance.

These quotes are excerpted from a journal article titled, "Bending the arc of nonprofit leadership toward justice..." by Kelly LeRoux and Alexandra Medina, published in the Public Administration Review on August 22, 2021

"The term has been used in the management field not only to capture the experiences of women but also that of people of color in leadership positions who face demoralizing or career-damaging precarity..."

They're set up for failure and eventually "pushed over the edge."

I learned a new term today:

THE GLASS CLIFF - "circumstances in which POC and women are preferentially placed in leadership roles that are associated with an increased risk of negative consequences... They are achieving leadership roles, but in far more precarious circumstances than White men."

I'm having one of those "More Coffee Please" kinds of mornings.

True autumn temperatures have finally arrived in DC. I'm so glad to welcome the cool breezes and low humidity.

Here’s a primer on ‘primer.’

It’s pronounced ‘PRIMM-er’ if you mean “a small book” or “a short informative piece of writing.”

It’s pronounced ‘PRY-mer’ if you mean “an initial coat of paint.”

I will have healthy boundaries in this life if I don't have anything else. #protectingmypeace

I go through spells where I literally *need* to create art (despite my very limited capability in this area). I've come to understand it as my psyche's call for balance when I'm working too hard. Something inside me says, "Enough stressing for now. Let's use your mind for something soothing."

I do weird things, like responding "thank you" when an AI chatbot is especially helpful. So there's that.

Sometimes, caring means letting go. This is a hard truth that I struggle with every time it becomes applicable to my life. It does not get easier with practice.

I spent a good part of the day tidying up my cluttered studio apartment.

And now, I'm settling in for a good night's rest.

I'm not sure why I sleep better when my home is clean/organized, but I do.

I asked AI for words describing a person who values truth above all, and learned 2 new terms:

Veritist – from veritas (Latin for truth), sometimes used to describe someone devoted to truth.

Alethiophile – from the Greek aletheia (truth) + philos (love), meaning “lover of truth” (rare but precise).

I'd like to watch a second movie tonight, but what could possibly top the full experience that I just had?

I first saw Ghost as a kid, and it was the very first movie ever to make me cry. Tonight, 35 years later, I cried again like a baby. What a sweet, timeless, funny, riveting little story that is. I'll try not wait another thirtyish years before watching it again.

A restaurant-prepared bowl of cheese grits was so disappointing over the weekend that I'm cooking some tonight to reset my palate.

You can't just serve subpar cheese grits and expect me to move on as if nothing ever happened, doggone it. I have my standards.

My dog is taking another nap and I can't think of one reason why I shouldn't follow his excellent example.
