This account was created to counter the hate and division spread by its very namesake. While it may be hard to create a world free of online bullies, it’s within our power to create a world where kindness is more typical.

Adoption records are often unavailable to the public, so claiming to be able to accurately determine someone's lineage without their explicit consent and being given access to such records is quite simply impossible. Use licensed private investigators, not vigilantes.

Respect to those calling out Crystal Semaganis and her "Ghost Warrior Society" for her harmful behavior. It takes courage to stand up to lateral violence. We need more of this. Protecting our spaces starts with accountability.

Herein lies the problem: "...these so called “Pretendian Hunters" sometimes get it right. But when they get it wrong they really get it wrong."

We do need to address the issue of fraud but not by publishing amateur research peppered with defamatory statements. This work must be done with integrity.
Here's The Debated Native.

View it on Substack or Patreon. Both offer optional subscriptions but the info I'll be presenting, and there's a lot of it, will always be free in service to community.

Read to near the end. Trust me.

The "Ghost Warrior Society" blatantly disregards The Genealogist’s Code of Ethics, especially in terms of protecting the public.

Shoving your political agenda ahead of basic human decency isn’t just unethical. It’s cowardly, selfish, and absolutely shameful.

Gatekeeping indigeneity enacted by Indigenous People upon each other is lateral violence.

It is not for anyone to determine who is "Native enough" or not...that only serves to further empower the colonial structures.

We are better than that.

This is a story very common to #indigenous people.Rather than judge someone for lack of traditional knowledge, commend them for trying to learn.
At a former job, I was called "garbage indian" etc b/c I'm Metis, look white and didn't grow up with my culture.
Lateral violence is real. #metis

Only work with certified genealogists. Genealogy research can uncover sensitive information that affects privacy, emotions, and relationships. Being mindful of the ethical, legal, and emotional aspects is essential to conducting responsible and respectful research. This is why we hire professionals.

Some people spend their time policing others’ identities and loudly claiming moral authority. Even when they’re sometimes correct, a lack of careful research can lead to serious harm. Real Indigenous advocacy lifts up communities. It doesn’t weaponize outrage or leave a trail of harm behind.

Faking Indigenous ancestry for gain causes real harm, but amateur investigations and defamation aren't the solution. They often target the wrong people, divide us, and harm real communities. Let’s focus on respectful, intelligent, and thoughtful ways to address these issues together.
