On this day in 1967, Che Guevara was captured by army forces in Bolivia. He was executed on the orders of the CIA the next day.

Just over a week later, speaking to a rally of more than one million people in Havana, Fidel declared 8 October the 'Day of the Heroic Guerrilla'.

Today marks the 65th anniversary of the First Declaration of Havana.

Delivered by Fidel Castro in Revolution Square, the speech was a response to US aggression against Cuba and condemned US imperialism across Latin America.
