Loogie brought up Doffy's eyes that are surely at least light-sensitive and probably much more, so this is now a 'let's talk about Doffy's eyes' day. Here's my snippet for the whole 'he's never without them, he doesn't know how to hide his emotions being visible in his eyes anymore' conversation.

Snippet from my One Piece fanfic The Grand Design of Rise and Burn, chapter 12. It describes Crocodile demanding that Doflamingo removes his shades before giving into his seduction. The text does not fit into alt, but the core paragraphs are:

"Crocodile nodded, then brought the hook on the muscled shoulder, dragged it lightly over the quickening pulse, up to tap the red glasses with the sharp tip. "Off."

He could see the brows rising, feel the hesitation hanging in the air. He tapped the glasses again. Knew he could shatter them. Wanted to. Take away Doflamingo's shields, wound him, scar him, steal his sight for daring to look at Crocodile like this. Maybe the thought was visible on his face because the blond did as he was told, the red shades removed, set on his desk, eyes lowered, watching them like he had given up on a limb. Maybe he had.

"Good boy." He didn't have time to enjoy the hitched breath the words caused. No, because Doflamingo turned to look at him and it took all of Crocodile's resolve not to gasp, himself. His left eye was blind, which in hindsight should have been obvious. The man practically advertised it with his jolly roger. That was surprising, but not worth a shock. No, it was the right eye, the red eye, that twisted something inside Crocodile. It showed so many emotions, such vulnerability, such insanity that he did not know how to deal with any of it. Is it because he always wore the shades? Did he never learn to control what comes across when he's without his shields?

He didn't stop himself when he realized his hand moved to brush thumb slowly under the blind eye. Doflamingo closed his eyes, and Crocodile moved his thumb over the closed lid in what he had to admit was a caress. "Pretty bird.""

Doflamingo pulled his glasses from his nose, rubbed the sore divots left in their place and Rosinante's hand rose instinctively. He wasn't sure when the habit started. Perhaps Rosinante mimicked their father who always shielded his eyes. From the sun, from the gold, from the slaves being beaten, from the humans being coupled at a Celestial's whim. His father always tried to hide the world from him. The man always wanted to keep him from seeing the world in its true colors. The reds of carmine and scarlet that painted over the vibrancy of the green grass and the blue sky.

But that afternoon was overcast, dreary and the sun that did peek through the clouds couldn't reach him under the hide-outs overhanging roof. Doflamingo batted Rocinante’s hand aside. "Who taught you that? Protect your own vision if you're so concerned. Putting grease under your eye like a circus clown– You'll go blind long before I do." Rosinante side eyed him and his gaze paused for only a moment before he turned to instead pull a cigarette from his pocket with a smirk on his lips. He smoked and the smoke made Doflamingo's eyes burn, but it seemed frail to go back on his earlier comment and don his glasses again. So he let the tears pool in the crease of his eyes and he didn't say a thing because he had nothing to prove to Rosinante. Or maybe it was to prove something.

Rosinante huffed a laugh and Doflamingo sucked his teeth. "Put it out." Rosinante did as he was told. He looked over at Doflamingo and he seemed in better spirits than he had been in some time. The last child that showed up ran off that morning. The portly thing fled crying after being lopped off this very boardwalk. Doflamingo wondered if that had anything to do with Rosinante's mood. He could resent his brother for scaring new followers away from him, but not only was it something that made his brother feel relieved to be able to do, it weeded out the weak. Against Rosinante's best efforts, he wasn't actually saving any child,…
