Lotsa great music on this concert by Semiosis Quartet with Rane Moore last night (at Gallery 263 in Cambridge) but one piece that especially stood out to me was Juri Seo’s eerily poignant “Lost Songs”

When @doriastories.bsky.social & I really really really want to catch a concert, there’s no amount of cold that can keep us away!

One of the most inspired vocal/piano recitals I can ever recall attending! Pairing art & music, & w/ highlights including intricate & constantly inventive works by @ryanthecomposer & elaborately gorgeous early Schoenberg songs I’ve long loved but never heard live before. Thanks to sakura & rose duo!

Jihye Chang played quite an exhilarating program tonight at BU… (cut off from the image = music by Stratis Minakakis, Shinuh Lee, & Schubert)

I was shopping for a birthday card last week for @doriastories.bsky.social & happened to see this & now can neither un-see it nor stop it playing in my head exactly as notated on a sadistic loop, so I’m posting it to exorcise it, but now YOU’VE all seen it & oh god so very sorry what have I done.

4 composers, 1 visual artist & 1 spoken word artist - so many stylistic contrasts yet so many common threads, making for quite a memorable Saturday evening. Thank you New Gallery Concert Series!

After another (3rd or 4th?) round of shoveling, rather sore, & I’m kinda getting Winter 2015 vibes. Except something’s, uh, a little different for me physically, not sure what it is, but definitely NOT that I’m just slightly older than in 2015 (there’s no way to know by how much), nope def not that.

Shoveling round one complete! Will be back at it first thing in the AM. (w/ @doriastories.bsky.social )

No matter what’s going on in the world or whatever else may be on my mind, I’ve resolved that I’m always going to post about the live music I’m managing to catch in 2026, because it’s my lifeline. And this sure was a great way to spend a cold Friday evening.

Sending love to all my dear family and friends in MN. I'm inspired by the determination of all the peaceful demonstrators yesterday, & all who stand up against ICE & all those brave enough to observe & record what's happening up close, to immediately refute every lie that these assholes tell.

Got a chance to meet a legend of new music last night: Christian Woolf. Loved hearing his music and a stunning Cage Concert for Piano & Orch w/ Aria. But it reminded me of why I take the time to manage this here calendar and try periodically to remind people that it exists as a resource...

Is this what’s known as a “timeline cleanse” - an anonymous 19th century egg salad that I happened to encounter at the Museum of Fine Arts the other day? Am I doing this right?

First live music for me in 2026: Caught the awesome first set by Construction Party at the Lilypad last night.

My blood is just boiling right now. To watch that video and then read the president’s statement. And to realize that each new line that ICE crosses, like the kidnapping of Rümeysa Öztürk, and now the murder of Renee Good, they’re testing to see if they can get away with it.

Looking for a cozy place on a chilly Tuesday night? I'm co-curating a set feat. Stephen Marotto on solo cello at Cambridge MA's Lilypad, which is followed by a Taylor Ho Bynum, Jeff Song, Pandelis Karayorgis & Eric Rosenthal quartet performance. Good music, good beer, nice people. Doors open at 7.

I promised myself I'd post more here about the live music I'm taking in, but I can't keep up! This weekend I heard 5 concerts in Boston/Cambridge: Don Berman & Susan Narucki recital, Charles Overton & Kalia Vandever in JP, the newest Guerilla Opera, Junction Trio playing Zorn, & Violets (5 violas!)

Camberville/Boston friends: I’m going to the 10:30 showing of the first two episodes of Twin Peaks: The Return at the Brattle tonight. Anyone want to join me?

Is there a specific word for the deep sadness one feels while missing a live performance of Ravel's Mallarmé songs featuring an incomparable dream team on a cloudy, early fall evening?

My violin/cimbalom duo just launched our second annual call for composers. It's an easy and free application, and we'll award two composers $1,000 to write a new piece for us. Check it out here!

In re: LRT, Minnesota is the opposite of a news desert - the Twin Cities has dozens of responsible news outlets staffed by incredibly professional journalists. They do not need your breathless, speculative assistance in covering this story. Post *local* coverage as it emerges, and ignore the noise.
