Felt I was being unfaithful or cheating on @monisharajesh.bsky.social, by reading Moonlight Express on an Aircraft. 🛫
So joyous to listen to the all-night BBC Prom curated by Anna Lapwood. Do hope that it’s repeated, would love to spend a night at the Royal Albert Hall.

See we’ve reached the part in the news cycle in which it’s the National Trust & Church of Englands fault again. Doesn’t matter what for, but any chance to stoke the ability to be angry. 🙄

Finally, the poet Brian Patten had his roots in the same Merseybeat movement. Alongside Roger McGough & Adrian Henri, Brian contributed to the 1967 anthology “The Mersey Sound.” Giving Britain its own Beat Poetry moment. Here’s a little video that includes Brian.

I was very fortunate to see and meet Nick Crouch of The Mojos a few times. He helped keep the legacy of Merseybeat alive.
This clip of The Mojos is from a pretty naff film, but gives an idea of their live act at the height of the Beat boom.

Danny Thompson was the epitome of cool in my eyes. I saw him live with a reformed Pentangle and also with various other acts over the years. His bass playing was always so effortless and cool. Combing jazz & folk so seamlessly.

Steve Whalley might not be an immediate name, but he was ever present for various Blues & R&B bands across the clubs in West London when I used to go regular gigging. He also had the unenviable task of being lead singer in a later version of Slade post-Noddy.

Back across the Atlantic, Viv Prince was the original anarchic Rock & Roll drummer. His energy and enthusiasm eventually leading to his dismissal from one of Rocks most rebellious band The Pretty Things. He later played with many other acts as a session player.

American pop of the 1960s wouldn’t be the same without Bobby Hart. Alongside Tommy Boyce they wrote and performed so many classics, most notably for The Monkees. However this tune for Jay & The Americans is my favourite of their compositions.

Talking of evocative, The Turtles were one of the very best American pop bands of the 60s. Mark Volman was instrumental in that success. Lot of talk about “Happy Together” & “Elenore,” but the eery sound on this, makes this my Turtles favourite.

Sticking with evocative sounds of the 50s, Sonny Curtis was the last surviving member of The Crickets to play alongside Buddy Holly. He also wrote and performed with other acts before & after Holly including writing “I Thought The Law,” but this is one of my favourites

First to remember is Marjorie "Margie" Latzko who (I believe) was the last surviving member of the Chordettes. This classic is still so evocative.
