Yet there is a certain level of peacfulness at which the regime can simply ignore any protest. A million people, or even 10 million people, shouting and walking around for a couple hours and then going home, ultimately pose no threat to the regime.

Dunno what numbers are expected to turn up on the NK protest, let's say a million? So, a million peacufl people would make less of an impact than a million violent people. BUT, my understanding is, that with violent protest, the number would shrink to maybe a couple thousand at best.

B/c at this stage, any attempt at a violent protest would be premature, alienate the public, and give the regime an easy excuse to use force.

Look, my point isn't that violence is great and everybody should do more of it. Violence is quite shitty & can be legit only as a last resort

It might be tempting to take an absolute stance, and cut off groups that are a bit more radical for fear of alienating the public. Sometimes some groups need to be cut off, most of the time they don't.

Yeah I'm not saying you should do any kind of violence right now; rather that this should be a strategic choice, not a moral absolute.

Also, there's a lot of grey space between a calm march and a riot. Like, are "fuck Trump" banners acceptable? Effigy burning?
