The wren is the emblem of the Holly King, who reigns over the period of shortening days and is ritually vanquished by the Robin (representing the Oak King or the new, growing sun) at the Winter Solstice to mark the turning of the year and the return of light.

If it wasn't for the whole RL drama outside #DoctorWho these last few years, then the universe having been entangled with myths being real really would've been a good time to bring back Santa for a Xmas Special.
