the freedom and dignity of making your own choices on what to buy and eat. Those are valid political questions. What we cannot do as Christians is deny that Jesus said when our neighbors are hungry, we should feed them.

I’m reading a book on church leadership, and the author keeps using the phrases “your church” and “my church.” And I get it. I say that sometimes too. But I’m trying to consciously shift to “the church I serve” because this church–this congregation–does not belong to me. It belongs to Jesus.

That’s an interesting point - I wonder how many did nominate someone for the pre-ID process…and how many were nominated for that and declined at that point to participate.

I listen to enough ELCA conversations to not be at all surprised at Bishop Curry’s election. But I think it’s worth noting that the person elected was not one of those who participated in the process as a pre-identified candidate.
