"How long you been in-country, man?"

"Twenty-three days here in the 'polis. I'm gettin' short. Can't wait to catch that big bird back to the World."

In the background, Fortunate Son plays.
Using military war terms is very telling. Not only how they perceive themselves, but also how they view average Americans.
Q: Can you be specific about how many ICE and CBP agents are currently operating in the state?

HOMAN: 3,000. There's been some rotations. They've been in theater a long time. Day after day, can't eat in restaurants, people spin on you, blowing whistles at you. But my main focus now is draw down

"You raise your voice, I erase your voice." I bet he's been practicing that all month.

Credit where it's due: if someone asked me to come up with a single sentence to describe the Republican Party in a nutshell, I'm not sure I could do a better job. This is what they are, and all they'll ever be.
ICE agent: “You raise your voice, I erase your voice.”

"A #bot wrote this" has become the new "it's #satire" or "he's just #trolling." Sure, a lot of accounts are bots, programmed to produce maximum #ragebait. Your safest bet is still that on the other side of the screen is a real #human who actually believes whatever #bullshit they're spewing.

These “liberals” that leftists keep talking about sound almost as bad as the Stalinist “Democrat Party” that keeps conservatives awake at night. I sure am glad I’ve never met one.

If you have ever met me, you may have noticed that I am quite tall. 🧵

My worst fear, of course, is that none of us will live to see the end of the regime. Elections, protests, attempted revolution—anything we do will be futile. The future is a boot stamping on a human face, forever. Or at least close enough to forever for everyone around now. 🧵

I swear climatologists think less about climate change, epidemiologists think less about vaccination, and paleontologists think less about evolution, than the crowd of screeching denialists who descend like locusts on any news story even vaguely related to any of these subjects. 🧪

Well, crap. My Twinings addiction is about to get even more expensive.

In a backhanded way I think this is a good thing. Someone explained to him in small words that invading Greenland is a very bad idea. He's not capable of true understanding, but he's easily bullied. Like bullies usually are.

Everyone who's ever served in the US military got the "don't do war crimes" briefing in basic training. If Mark Kelly is guilty, so is every drill sergeant. The number of veterans who are willing to pretend they don't know this is fucking pathetic.

Creationists love the idea that the genetic code and computer code are fundamentally the same thing. Since of course programs are designed (not always intelligently, but that's another post) they think this is proof that life was too. 🧪 🧬 🖥️ 🧵

Since Trump pardoned every member of the J6 mob, 33 out of the approximately 1,500 released have been convicted of other violent crimes, a rate of 2.2%. 🧵

Health officials slash the number of vaccines recommended for all kids
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is reducing the number of vaccines recommended for all children. The action follows a presidential memorandum ordering a review of the U.S. schedule.

So many things to be angry about. I need to triage. "Okay, the shithead in exam room 8 will probably be admitted to a jerk ward, but the fuckface in trauma bed 3 is definitely going to the ICU [idiot care unit], and someone prep the asshat we parked out in the hallway for a cephalanalectomy ..."

Dipping my toe in the waters of prediction:

I will be very surprised if there is not a large, open US ground presence in Venezuela in the next six months, if not sooner. Maybe a significant Chinese presence too, but that will be quieter, a la the USSR in Vietnam. 🧵

There is no reason to expect this to slow down any time soon. In popular culture, the entirety of the Mesozoic is still a static world with a few carefully placed charismatic monsters. Reality is always messier and a hell of a lot more fun. 🧪 🦕 🦖
UPDATE with corrections for last year of previous chart of new Mesozoic dinosauromorph (and lagerpetid) species from 2003 to 2025. At 48 new species, it is slightly above the 45.2 average of this interval.

Guess I'm a zombie now. Well, when I go looking for brains to eat, I'll skip hers.
Wait…does Dr. Orrick have her tongue blowing a hole in her cheek, or did she really believe this? If so, some medical school out there should lose its accreditation.

The idea that the leaders of nations at war should be off-limits is a relic of the days when kings and noble knights expected to be treated respectfully by their counterparts on the other side while they all cheerfully trampled peasant soldiers into the mud. Let it and them die.

As both a medic and a writer, I'm going to go out on a limb and say the ethical bar for fiction writing is *far* lower than the bar for medicine. 🚀 ⚕️ 🖥️
