I’m a Northern Irish outdoorsy type, enjoying life living in Scotland with my young family.

I’m a big fan of nature, mountains, beaches, paths and Scotland’s right to roam.

I’ll try to post here about adventures on hills, rock, ice and water. 🧗 🏊 🌳 🦦 🏃

10 routes at Aberdour next to a shimmering Forth with Tim, early this month.

Gentle stuff. No stress. Far from ‘extreme sport’.

Just the pleasurable routine of moving up and over grippy rock with a pal in the sun. Then walking down. And repeat.

Together we’re calling for bold action, starting with a £50 million Scottish Paths Fund to transform trails nationwide.

We also want:
🚶 Better promotion of the Scottish Outdoor Access Code
⚖️ A stronger access role for NatureScot
🗺️ Core paths to be shown on OS maps

🌳Scotland needs Paths Into Nature!🚶

We’ve launched an ambitious joint manifesto ahead of the 2026 Holyrood election, backed by 7 partner orgs in Scottish Outdoor Recreation Alliance.

Our goal? ✅ Make Scotland’s world-class access rights an everyday reality for all!

Outdoor recreation won’t change the world or solve all society’s ills. But a wee bit of investment will be highly visible, will bring joy and better health to a lot of people and will boost the rural economy. What’s not to love?

⛰ Glen Lyon access must be fixed.

We’ve written to @perthandkinross.bsky.social, calling on it to urgently require a landowner to remove ‘No Walking’ signs at popular Perthshire Munros.⛔

North Chesthill Estate in Glen Lyon is trying to stop walkers accessing its 4 Munros during all of Sept & Oct.

The landowner in the Glen Lyon access case has told local media: “The hill is open and anyone can take access."

Yet, below is walker and author Iain Cameron's recent photo from the estate.

We hope that the council will use its powers to get this resolved, quick.

A morning shtomp before the shtorrrm.

I’m back home with the kids this weekend in Newcastle, County Down.

#StormAmy is now battering the windows in that oddly pleasing way storms do. ☔️ 💨

This was a grand day out in Fife with the lovely folk from Livingston Ramblers.

Quite simply, walking makes lives better! 🚶🥾🗺️

Grateful to the group for having us along - and for speaking so passionately.

Discover the JOY of group walks!

We ❤️ running thousands of group walks across Scotland every year, thanks to our wonderful volunteers & support from players of People's Postcode Lottery.

🎥 We joined Livingston Ramblers at Loch Leven in Fife, to hear how group walks boost their health & happiness.

Not acceptable! In addition to @ramblersscotland.bsky.social below @walkhighlands.co.uk makes some pointed and entirely justified remarks in its guidance www.walkhighlands.co.uk/perthshire/c...

🤦🏼More access problems in Glen Lyon, Perthshire.

North Chesthill Estate is trying to stop access to 4 popular Munros for all of Sept & Oct.

#ScottishOutdoorAccessCode accepts managing routes on specific days for 🦌 stalking, but NOT unreasonable blanket bans.

We've asked council staff to intervene.

Cheers. Carving’s an interesting pursuit & is hard to beat for anyone looking for a screen-avoidance pursuit!

Aw cheers, Ben!

We’d loved watching the bottlenose dolphins at Rosemarkie this year, and it seemed the right thing to give a go.

Cheers Ken. Felt like a bit of a punt starting out.

I’ve only carved a few things before, and nothing since Lockdown.

It was an enjoyable, long & concentrated task, but I’m not rushing to start another!

Pretty chuffed with how this wee dude panned out. 🐬

A surprise 40th birthday present for my wife.

God knows how many late-night hours I spent carving. The final stages involved some nervy dorsal and pectoral fin manoeuvres.

Its wee storage house is the original block of lime that it came from.

Right now, Scottish Ministers are deciding if Coul Links will become a golf course.

As well as a globally-protected habitat, these Highland dunes are home to informal paths & the John o' Groats Trail, which up to 7 holes would cross.

“Unfortunately, the risk the path would pose to the security of the site – including Osborne's irreplaceable collection... was just too great”.
Not sure art thieves would be much deterred if there’s no path to use, but the rest of the public has to lose out too?

😝 An excellent and common-sense point that I know has been made by the local Isle of Wight Ramblers volunteers.

And if it can work at Blenheim Palace, Stourhead, Balmoral…

Surely EH must think again?!
