Practice landscape trying out paper I’ve decided I don’t like because too much texture comes through.
Watercolor results are really affected by paper & paint type.
There really isn’t a student grade paper I like much. Every time I think so, it doesn’t stand up to other challenges

Another class coming in May- a study of texture in watercolor.
We’ll explore tools like salt, blotting, scratching & wax resists, then we will paint an easy birch tree scene using our colors & brush to convey texture.
Class will be at Arts at Heart in Shelter Cove California. More details to come

And if you love watercolor you may want to check out Ampersand Aquabord which allows you to “scrub” out color, all the way to white, with scrubbing brushes.

I really like derwents a lot. Inktense are really nice and vibrant, also quite staining, and the regular “watercolor” are more lifting but still very nice. They all flow and blend really beautifully.
I’ve never tried the prisma though and would like to

It’s decent texture for “student grade”- def better than Strathmore. I don’t always stretch unless using a lot of water, then especially anything under 140 lb
