WELCOME TO THE DREAM OF THE DIGITAL WORLD ARCHIVE

A small update to fit with the profile change I did before
The Digital World Archive is where I share everything I know about Digimon, from the old V-Pets to modern games and anime, and more.
I hope to talk even more about Digimon in 2025!!

One thing that I didn't expect to enjoy as much as I do in Time Stranger is the Outer Dungeon environments, it's like the EDEN Cyberspaces, but they got to be more crazy with some of them. I particularly like the Digimon victory poses. Having the crazy colors there feels good.

Since I broke continuity this time (Quite a Stranger Time isn't it?) I'm wondering about also doing it next time and skipping the Junomon Temple stuff for the 6th chapter, and instead cover the questlines that open right after entering it int he 5th.

Digimon Story Time Stranger – Game Diary #4
Before returning to where I stopped last time, I forgot to mention that I finally accessed my first Outer Dungeon Challenge right before pursuing the mysterious shadow. I thought those would only b…

Digimon Story Time Stranger Game Diary #4 - Exploring the Digital World

It has been quite a while since my last update, so a quick look at all the things I noticed while exploring the Central Town for the first time. A really nice experience, an amazing first look at Iliad.

Like, when Yggdrasil's core was corrupted by the Eaters and its words were vague and imprecise and its systems malfunctioning, how did the other two react to that? I think there could be fun ways of drawing that. Also, I don't like that King Drasil is still being used instead of Yggdrasil.

When the Three Hosts were teased in the Time Stranger demo as children together, the first thing I thought were possible fan arts depicting Homeros and Kunlun reacting to Yggdrasil's many actions in Digimon history. The Project Ark, Savers Attack, Eaters' Corruption, etc.

The short animation "Digimon Story Time Stranger Prelude" will be resealed at October 13th.
By showing events that are only vaguely described in the game, you'll be able to dive deeper in the world of the game.

I thought that maybe they could do something like the CSA Digivices, focusing more in making a experience with references to the anime rather than a V-Pet experience.

Anyway, this was just me trying to understand all the different reactions to what I posted today (In a way, surprised by how much more engagement it got than a lot of my actual work). Tomorrow I'll be back with the next chapter of my Time Stranger diary.
dataravel.bsky.social
And this is why my basic course of action is "to understand, even if I don't agree" and "don't try to change the others, try to be out of conflict". It would just be nice that more would try to understand me as I try to understand them.
dataravel.bsky.social
But I guess that is ultimately the consequence of making my thoughts public here, I can't control who is going to read what I write, and there'll always be someone who never read me before who isn't going to know my preferences.
dataravel.bsky.social
Maybe this another result of me being too detached from that type of discussion, I basically live in my own side of the world here without engaging with any larger fanbase (Or at least I try, I dislike conflict), I prefer to make my own sense of things.

Someone told me that "trainer" feels too much Pokémon, but that didn't make sense to me, at least when making that decision. Words can be used in multiple ways, conveying various meanings, and I don't feel a generic word can be "monopolized" in this context like that.
dataravel.bsky.social
It thought that "trainer" was both close to "Tamer" without being it, and maybe it could give the feeling that "they didn't say Digimon Tamer, but the intent is the same". But it seems some people took it far more serious than I expected.
dataravel.bsky.social
So, using "user", "trainer", and "tamer" are valid translations you'll find in dictionaries. But since "Tamer" is often directly used in Katakana (テイマー) I thought that using it wouldn't work as well. "Digimon users" could have worked, but I felt it was missing something.
dataravel.bsky.social
Returning to the main topic, in that line about "Digimon trainers", my thought was all in the term used, "デジモン使い". "使い" means "to use" and as the suffix there it basically means "someone who can use a Digimon".
dataravel.bsky.social
As another example, the actual Yuugo in CS is called "神代勇吾" (Kamishiro Yuugo in Kanji), while the avatar persona used by Yuuko is called "ユーゴ" (Yuugo in Katakana). It's a nuance that also makes use of the different writing systems, it's the same, but different.
dataravel.bsky.social
There are certain CS materials that don't keep the difference, and デジタルワールド was used to describe EDEN. And in the English translation, it was all over the place, so some players got confused because of the difference wasn't clear.
dataravel.bsky.social
Cyber Sleuth is my preferred example for this, as there was the desire to make clear that the Cyberspace EDEN and the Digital World weren't the same thing, so you often wouldn't see デジタルワールド being used for the EDEN, only 電脳空間. But, that didn't happen all the time.
dataravel.bsky.social
Sometimes the usage will only be dependent on the series (Like Adventure might use only a certain terms, Tamers might use other ones, etc), but in general the concepts are more or less the same, but there are still nuances in the choice and some times, intended differences.
dataravel.bsky.social
Digimon for example, is デジモン. Digital World is デジタルワールド. Real World is リアルワールド. But sometimes you can use words in the different writing systems to also describe those concepts, such as 現実世界 for Real World, 電脳空間 for Digital World, etc.
dataravel.bsky.social
There are many ways of using Katakana, like it's sometimes used as the full dialogue for robot characters. But in general, it's used to describe loanwords, like from English. For specific terms in a series, it's not unusual to use English words written in Katakana.
dataravel.bsky.social
In Japanese, there are three writing systems, Hiragana, Katakana, and Kanji. Each one of them has their uses, and although in general all of them can be used together, sometimes there are certain nuances depending on the context that are influenced by the one used.
dataravel.bsky.social
One thing that actually surprised me, was that in the Beatkbreak outline post, there were a few comments about my use of "Digimon trainers", which I never thought would caught that much interest, so giving an explanation why I didn't use "Digimon Tamers".
dataravel.bsky.social
With the e-Pulse stuff, I particularly enjoyed the idea that a Digimon's power can fluctuate during the battle with their emotions, and if they enter an argument, the Digimon might lose its powers. I think there'll be at least one episode exploring this gimmick.
dataravel.bsky.social
But as usual, it seems the material that I am mostly interested about in general has the less engagement, which I think is normal (I'm the odd one here for sure), but the sheer difference was so big that it surprised me.
