I'm so excited to share the stage with Chelsea O'Donnell from @stressdolls.bsky.social and the Buffalo String Collective string quartet. The arrangements are almost done... hope to see you at Duende at Silo City on November 13!
We were kindred spirits from the get-go, kamikaze-shooting spontaneous scenes with reckless abandon as we ran all over New York City like a couple of miscreants.
That feeling reminded me of Hitchcock’s North By Northwest. From one escape to the next, there’s never time for Cary Grant or the audience to recover. This was my first time working with director Alice Teeple, and she quickly embraced and captured that feeling.
At the time I wrote “If We Could Escape,” my life felt like it had permanently shifted into a new gear, a non-stop roller coaster. Getting off the ride for even a few minutes to catch my breath was a luxury that was simply no longer available to me.

Read Apricot Magazine’s detailed track-by-track review of my new record Red Sky Warning, out now: "His voice, as always, is a weapon of vulnerability. His work isn’t about mimicry or trend-chasing. It’s about excavating emotion and presenting it, unfiltered and unflinching.”

Love changes things, and if you’re lucky, that change is radical, even revolutionary. And if you’re truly open to it, love will change you. I used to believe bravery required an absence of fear. Now I know that you can’t be brave without it.
Once I got married and started a family, my life had its fair share of difficult decisions. I’ve always done my best, but invariably, I've sometimes felt less than certain I was making the right call. The same was true before, of course—I just didn’t have as much to lose.
You’d think I would have been disheartened, but as an artist I felt vindicated. These songs needed more from me for the art to be right. I rebuilt my studio, upgraded my equipment, and started over from scratch. The art is the only thing that ever matters.
Back in the mid-to-late 20-teens, I had already recorded a nearly complete version of Red Sky Warning. My producer Blake Morgan and I listened to these early takes together, and we both had the same reaction - the songs needed a completely different recording approach.
As an artist, I know how good it feels to get the music-making part right. The response I’ve gotten sharing it with all of you has reminded me of WHY I make music in the first place. Love and gratitude to everyone listening!
What an amazing time I’m having. With three recent singles out, my music is reaching its largest audience ever (by far). My new album arrives June 6, and I can’t wait.
My role as VP of Creative Operations at ECR Music Group is intertwined with my artistry and musicianship. Thanks to Buzzy Band for recognizing this, for connecting the dots, and for this great review of my new single. Read the full article here: buzzyband.com/david-cloyd-...
