Is This Thing On? (2h01m)

Touching script based on a true story that strikes a fine line between realism and originality, comedy and drama.
The cast is impeccable and Cooper’s direction, constantly using his framing to great effect, truly immersive.

The Chronology of Water (2h08m)

Less a narrative and more a raw character study, the film owes a lot to its very intricate direction, editing and sound design.
In the lead, Imogen Poots is, as often, remarkable and superbly intense.

The Wizard of the Kremlin (2h32m)

The film feels less like a narrative fiction and more like a re-enacted history lesson, yet one that delivers an accurate recap of Russia’s recent history.
Jude Law is simply perfect as Putin.

The History of Sound (2h08m)

A deep and moving character study that flags a bit in its middle but comes together beautifully in the last act thanks to powerful dramatic twists, clever editing and a nuanced but layered performance by Paul Mescal.

Marty Supreme (2h29m)

Chalamet’s intense and wide-ranging performance holds the film together but the script is an assortment of broken threads peopled by characters with unclear agendas and unsatisfying arcs.
Acting award bait but not much else.

Rental Family (1h49m)

Very sweet script with just the right balance of comedy and drama, with Brendan Fraser confirming his welcome return as a topmost lead with great range.

Hamnet (2h05m)

Terrific performance from Jesse Buckley. An original point of view and some outstanding emotional moments.
Bu the film feels fragmented and mostly serves as a protracted exposition for the final act.

28 Years Later: The Bone Temple (1h49m)

Redeems the franchise after a disappointing and fragmented first installment with the same wild concepts, great characters and visceral horror that made the original film stand out.

Greenland 2: Migration (1h38m)

Very weak narrative and world-building, symptoms of a sequel that exits only due to the success of its forerunner.
Unfortunate because Butler and Baccarin shine in the few dramatic and better written moments.

Alien: Earth

FX/Hulu/Disney+ - 1 season (ongoing), 8 episodes, 55 minutes each

Accurate production design and superb cast.
But the writing is messy and the show as a whole doesn’t merge with the franchise too well.

Father Mother Sister Brother (1h50m)

Lazy and pointless, Jarmush tries to get away with barely an idea by putting actors in front of a camera. It does not work on any level.

Song Sung Blue (2h12m)

Touching and bittersweet true story adapted into a well-structured script, despite a few occasional lags in pacing.
Hugh Jackman predictably shines and Kate Hudson also gives a memorable and intense performance.

Hedda (1h47m)

Overrated Ibsen play adapted into a unconvincing film rife with convoluted narrative setups and characters with needlessly obscure agendas.
The haphazard direction and a struggling cast complete the mess.

Anaconda (1h39m)

Bonkers meta concept that delivers enough funny moments to entertain, despite a movie with limited drive.
But add a cast with great comedic instincts, and a love letter to independent filmmakers, and you end up with a very enjoyable film.

The Gorge (2h07m)

Great concept that becomes a bit blunt in its second action-packed half.
The character work is however clever and original, giving the film an enjoyable tone that sets it ahead of most action horror films.

Our Times (1h30m)

The film has an interesting feminist angle to its time travel story. It’s unfortunately both a bit too tame and in your face to be really engaging.
The story does however recover in its touching final act.
