Headline: "Bank Fires Workers in Favor of AI Chatbot, Rehires Them After Chatbot Is Terrible at the Job"
Content: Bank lied about call volumes after introducing voice chatbot, union got involved, workers rehired.
This is why it isn't enough to just read headlines.

I had family in town this weekend and I asked them if they'd encountered any unnecessary federal law enforcement (I don't remember what word I actually used, but I also don't think it was actually unnecessary), and they responded yes, and they'd thanked them for their service. WHAT???

I'm not a brunch person (don't get me wrong, I LOVE brunch food) so planning family brunch is stressing me out. Does anywhere in the Dupont/Adams Morgan/U St area take reservations for weekend brunch?

In the pets-on-social-media world, Tuesdays are #TongueOutTuesday so I've been holding on to this goat from the petting zoo at the Bellevue Library @dcpubliclibrary.bsky.social back to school event last week.

On the one hand, I really should have taken Metro to this meeting across the street from the Anacostia metro. On the other hand, I barely made it back to my car without melting; I don't think I would survive waiting for a train.

Local friends, I am looking for a location to hold a four hour meeting on a Sunday for seven people, ideally for free, from 11-3ish. So not the library, because the hours are wrong. Capital One Cafe limits room use to two hours. DPR locations are closed on Sundays. What options am I missing?

I have been posting liberally on the Make Community how-to board, but if any of you use Make in conjunction with Notion and have some time (and willingness) to walk through some problems I'm having over videochat, I would be extremely, in not eternally, grateful.

This symposium on local government power/authority might be of particular interest to my DC peeps. Symposium is in NYC but also over Zoom. docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1F...

Remind me please what the trick is for making sure that you've swept up all the tiny shard when you drop and break something glass? I broke a jar in the bathroom which is where the cats go to drink water, and I don't want anyone to hurt their little beans.

A friend of @justiceaccess.org reached out on behalf of a friend with a donation of large men's clothing. Do you have a recommendation for an organization that would appreciate the donation, and could pick it up from the donor in Adams Morgan?

My one intentional use of GenAI is to write complicated formulas for Google Sheets and for Notion, and it just really failed me for the first time. I ought to have figured it out myself.

Yikes. People should not set one-day-before reminders on events without letting the attendees know. I just got a reminder for a meeting tomorrow and freaked out that I'd forgotten about it. And that my calendar was wrong. I didn't need that burst of adrenaline, thankyou.

So, uh, the fighter jets* that just flew over--that is part of some legitimate July 4th celebration, right? Not one of our new international enemies coming to blow us up? (*I didn't see them, but don't know what else makes that same noise so close to my house.)

Where are my techy friends? I could really use your help before I tear out my newly cut hair.
I have a few tech/automation questions I hope one of you brilliant people can help me with: 1. Broad question: do any of the automation tools (Make, Zapier, others?) have fields for alt-text for social media posting? 2/3 For PDS Host, is that "justiceaccess.org" or the whole Bsky link?

Y'all. I just got an email from someone with the closing line "Bests." That was quite a flashback. I had no idea that anyone other than Jim Graham used that.

There are definitely things to complain about in DC, but I am about to go to the DMV self-service inspection kiosk, and later this morning I am going to pick up fresh veggies from a DPR garden plot, so overall I think I'm coming out on top.

Dear anonymous law firm: if I can't find anything about pro bono on your website aside from press releases, I'm going to assume you don't care about your community. You might want to think about the impression that sends.

I live in a happy bubble that gets popped only by one high school classmate on FB. I am actually surprised that he hasn't posted "gas is under $2!!" yet. He takes what politicians say as gospel and believes that fact checking is propaganda.
Number of US gas stations currently selling gas for $1.99:

Zero.

Something I've been doing recently is tapping on "record" on the voice recorder on my phone and then thinking out loud while I drive. I am looking at the transcript from the last time I did this and of course it makes no sense (it isn't accurate) but I'm enjoying the "fuck this excuse me?"

I've been on video calls almost nonstop since 10 this morning. That was exhausting.
