Adopting a wealth proceeds tax is an equitable and straightforward option that would raise significant revenue, and help states mitigate the harm caused to people and communities by recent federal policies such as the Republican megabill: www.cbpp.org/blog/states-...
States Should Adopt the Wealth Proceeds Tax to Raise New Revenue
State policymakers should raise revenue to mitigate the harm to people and communities caused by federal actions and to expand critical investments that support a more prosperous future for all.

DC is disproportionately impacted by federal budget cuts & layoffs--& so are Black DC residents. Federal jobs have long been a stepping stone to the middle class for Black workers, & the loss of these jobs is likely exacerbating racial disparities in employment.

D.C. region saw more than 72,000 federal jobs lost in 2025, new data shows
Maryland lost more federal jobs than any other state in the country, a massive blow for a local economy where federal jobs make up about 6 percent of overall employment.

DC child poverty spiked by 11% in 2024, a number that will increase with continued cuts to DC and Federal budgets. The CTC is one of the best tools we have to help alleviate it.

We're grateful to @cmzparker5.bsky.social and all his colleagues who are pushing for this important legislation.
The child tax credit is one of the single-most effective anti-poverty measures of the last half-century. That's why 10 of my colleagues are joining me in sending a letter to Mayor Bowser requesting that she maintain funding the Council secured for this policy in her upcoming budget proposal.
