Two years ago, I helped develop and pass the first U.S. law recognizing a right for a nonhuman animal—elephants’ right to liberty. 🐘 It remains one of the proudest moments of my career and a major victory in the Nonhuman Rights Project’s work to secure fundamental rights for nonhuman animals.

By this math, 5% or less of zoos are accredited and not profit driven, this doesn't include roadsize zoos, petting zoos, etc. which likely pushes the number to 2-3%? So on a good day maybe 2 or 3 out of 100 zoos would pass the smell test? Terrible odds.

“In that instant – and there is really no other way to describe it – I felt an immense surge of love for that animal” = complete and utter psychopath

Let’s put an animal who has 100s of square miles in their natural habitat in a shoebox and then ask the public for live pets to simulate ‘reality’ for them.🤦🏻
