Salvation is a distant planet filled with killer beasts and deadly technology. In the comics, Rick Flag and Amanda Waller use Checkmate to imprison metahuman villains by sending them to Salvation forever, where they're forced to behave or die.

CheckMate ties into the DCU.

In the comics, CheckMate had important impacts on Infinite Crisis and Final Crisis, where Maxwell Lord weaponised it to create the OMAC Project, a system where Brother Eye activated sleeper agents on earth to hunt and kill metahumans using spy tech.

CheckMate is formed!

In the comics, CheckMate is a black ops organisation founded by Amanda Waller as the world's leading spy agency. It went through many changes and important members included Maxwell Lord and Sasha Bordeaux. It was mostly used for missions to attack and imprison metahumans.

James Hiroyuki Liao reprises his role as Secretary of Defense General Mori from Superman. He expresses his surprise that Rick Flag has gone from lambasting Lex Luthor last month, to now proactively implementing his plans against metahumans.

This fictional in-universe cartoon character first appeared on Rick Flag Jr's shirt in 'The Suicide Squad' and has popped up multiple times in the DCU!

Harcourt has an Ultra Bunny that Rick Jr probably gave her.
