My thoughts on pulse is that I think its crazy when films have their finger on the pulse of modern anxieties & then you watch them now, and those anxieties have only worsened. Like oh man, the website that makes you wanna die so you can be close to your friends still too relevant

Yeah. But I also feel like the kind of humor they do with her in the new comics is kinda 1-note Harley had more or a vaudeville classic Hollywood would comedy thing going and now its more teehee arent i a sexy raunchy girl funny girl, like it feels like there was a lot of subtle jokes that got lost

🟠this was more or less my point that getting mad that Harley like fucks around and does irreverent comedy stuff instead of just being all Mad Love ALL the time is deeply ahistorical and a pretty regressive take on the character

She still had a character outside of mad love and saying that shes defined solely by her victimhood in btas and the dcau feels reductive. And wanting her to be more like the earlier characterization its far fetched.

I feel like when people say they liked the btas or dcau version of Harley over the modern comics it feels like theyre trying to get a gotcha by saying you want Harley defined by her abuse victimhood forever when Harley did stuff outside be a victim in that,like she was a balanced character.

Is she being defined by her victim hood bc even in btas and the dcau overall Harley had more going on than that. Like she had episodes striking out on her own dealing with interesting themes about her wanting to get her life together or just going thru an adventure that balanced comedy and pathos.

🟠we used to really fight against this modern ish era of Harley saying it wasn't in the spirit of mad love and her origin till we realized it was kinda sucky to insist a character conceived as the victim of an abusive relationship be defined by that relationship forever

different the fact that Deadpool is the "ugly" character who looks grown while Harley was created to be pin up ready the vibe is different, and shes drawn in this way that feels uncomfortable when her age mates should be somewhere in their 40s, but bc shes a woman she is eternally a 20ish 6/7

Deadpool doesnt have that issue bc as a man in his relationships and the nature of gender he is not the one being nurtured in such way, where he is submissive and baby like to the people he is with and usually has an attempt of an interesting internal conflict. Deadpool is silly and goofy 4/7
