Today, 17 January 2026, the BBNJ Agreement enters into force. 🎉👏

#BBNJ creates a long-awaited legal framework to protect marine biodiversity across nearly half of our planet, strengthening ocean governance, enabling marine protected areas, and safeguarding the high seas for future generations.

Exciting to see that intact marcofaunal communities have been successfully extracted from an #offshorewindfarm! Looking forward to following the new developments of this EcoWind project.

Fascinating new study displays how long it takes for deep-sea species to re-establish an area of disturbance highlighting the decade long effects of deep-sea mining. However, certain more mobile species can repopulate the area at a faster rate. 🧪🌎🦑

Had a great time meeting with my fellow CDTSuMMeR PhD cohort and seeing how our projects have progressed. It was exciting to hear how more colleagues can now see how functional trait analysis could be used in their own work. How do you think you could use a functional trait approach in your work? 🧪🦑

Great new #functionaltrait work highlighting the need to describe functions beyond the group level. Species can have very specific functions that are crucial to shaping the environment around them and understanding this relationship is key to protecting ecosystems moving forward. #MarineEcology 🦑🧪
