The legendary Rod Mckuen. 77 Disco doings. Charity shop tat away day business! Fair play to him though, always on the side of good.
Pet in French. She writes, Serge writes (for Pet, I believe). Fabulous cover. What's not to love. Jeudi.
Jeri albums rarely turn up, it’s more a cd thing. I've managed a couple. So when they do. Another incredible vocalist, capable of being both serious and a little playful. Classically trained pianist too.
The tour was called Performance. It got a little Gilbert & George in dayglo. Marvellous.
Have to say, the tour off the back of Behaviour was one of the best concerts (you couldn't call it a gig) I have ever attended. Great album too (obviously).

This is great, but of course it is, as Adelle wrote it:
It’s Dory Previn’s centenary today, here’s a repost of a Quietus feature from 2024 if you‘re curious to find out more. Really enjoyed writing this (and the documentary is excellent too).

No Ordinary Thing: The Momentous Life & Times of Dory Previn
On the release of a new documentary on Dory Previn, Adelle Stripe explores an artist who learned to live with voices in her head

Shocking this stuff remains unreleased. I mean, it's a great song, June Christy did it, Lucy Reed did it. I like his voice on this too. A skip and a jump to Tilt maybe.

Another of today's finds. Nothing rare or whathaveyou. But all manner of lovely. It's folk and you should file it under PEN.
First of three charity shop finds today. It's pure Latin. It's Pure Rock!
I'm a bit in love with these two albums at the moment. The production, and erm, construction. Incredible. Tuesday.
Context. Lee Konitz in Harvard Square. I shall listen to this later.
Took a picture of some pigeons. Think it would make a decent Burt Goldblatt album cover for Bethlehem records.
Haha. I think I managed a few pages. Anyway, it made me listen to Hancock's Half Hour - Poetry Society episode (where the quote and poems are from). Annoyingly, the beeb have removed them from Sounds, had to be youtube!
Yes. Been a while though. They made a film, I think.
Hick, hack, hock,
Rinky tinky on purple grass,
Shafts of light, hob-nail boots,
Tramping down the bamboo,
That grows upwards, downwards, sideways,
Into the Concrete Cosmos,
Life is mauve,
I am orange,
Hick, hack, hock.

Enough now.
Steel rods of reason through my head.
Salmon jumping, where jump I?
Camels on fire and spotted clouds.
Striped horses prance the meadow wild,
And rush on to drink at life’s fountains deep.
Life is Cream. I am puce.
Ching. Chang. Cholla.
Saw a copy of Colin Wilson The Outsider in the charity shop the other day. A book I owned for decades but never read. Got rid a while back, now I'm tempted. Anyway. Monday.

'Open the door. The Outsiders are outside'.
Few more. The Franco and The Spanish Civil War EP looks great. Like a Dexys cover from their first album.
Just found Longmans released records. I really want this, what a cover. They also released Stan Barstow and Sid Chaplin records (who by the way, is a very underrated author, Day of the Sardine in particular).
Interesting isn't it. I watched a World in Action the other day. Ricky Valance completely forgotten just a couple of years after his Laura hit. Walking the street, sat in a caf. No one gave two hoots about him.
I remember having a conversation with a lady who was visiting where she grew up, saw them at the local town hall. She was still excited 50 years later. It was fabulous. She remembered every moment 🙂
Elizabeth Jane Howard, a dog who may have just spotted a cat or the postman and a couple of William Trevor books on top of a pile of her own.
Fascinating. Him talking about TTBCI, how dark it's going to get, but more than that, his fanbase. I think the % of people who nerdily collect his stuff is more likely male these days (and middle-aged, of course). I might be wrong, but that's a huge swing! Cheers!
